Anna Andersson(b. 1868) and Alfrid Friberg (b. 1860)

Hello,

I hope that I am in the correct forum.

I am looking for information on my great grand parents, Anna Maja Andersson and Johan Alfrid Friberg. Both were born in Sweden, but moved to Norway before coming to America.

From Sweden’s Anbytarforum I was told the following:

Anna Maja (Marie) Andersson born July 30, 1868 in Tosse, Alvsborg, Sweden.
Her parents:
Johan Jakob Andersson b. 1841 in Skallerud, Alvsborgs lan, Dalsland, Sweden
Laura Charlotta Andersdotter b. 1846 in Tydje (Alvsborg lan, Dalsland, Sweden
Her siblings:
Gustaf Georg, b. 1870
Emma Ingeborg Kristina, b. 1871
Johan Fredrik Oskar, b. 1873
Per Elof, b 1880
Anna’s family moved to Norway in 1887. (Anna would have been about 19 years old) Anna married Johan Alfrid Friberg in Oslo Norway on April 17,1889 in a civil ceremony. They had a baby in Oslo named Johanna Alfrida, b. 2-15-1890.

Johan Alfrid Friberg b. Jan 2, 1860 in Varik Parish, Alvsborg, Sweden
His fathers name was Daniel Olsen b. 1825
Johan Alfrid took the name of Friberg just after 1880. He is a tailor when he leaves for Norway, April 22, 1885 on a work license, not a permanent move.

Questions:
1) Any records of where Anna Andersson’s family lived in Norway? (I assume Olso, since this is where Anna married.)
2) Did Anna live with her family or work for another family before she married?
3) Did the family eventually move back to Sweden? (I was told Anna’s brother died in Oslo, in 1921, so at least one family member stayed in Norway.)
4) I believe I found Johan Alfrid in the 1885 Kristiania Census. If I translated it correctly it states the he is a lodger and works as an apprentice tailor. It looks like he is living with a bunch of tailors. Could this have been a factory? Is he living with Bertha Anderes. and son Einer? Any relation?
5) According to Swedish Census books he left for America in May 21, 1886. Any records that he left Norway in 1886 and then came back from America to Norway to marry Anna in 1889?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me regarding Anna and Johan Friberg (and their families) when they lived in Norway
Mary

Hi

Johan Alfrid in the 1885 census:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... 13414#ovre
(Always a good idea to show what you have already found)
Seems like he is a lodger together with the persons above him.

Here is the marriage of Johan and Anna. They are noted down in the churchbook in Jacob church.
No 2:

I have a bit trouble reading the note at the far right, but I think they are going to live in Ebbells gade no 3.

Johanna Alfrida is noted down in the book containing baptized at Rikshospitalet.
Adress is now Raadhusgate 21. The note at the far right tells that her father has been in America since july 1889 and that her mother tell on july 1, 1890 that she too is going to emigrate soon.
No 26, bottom half:

Hi

This must be Johan Alfrid's first voyage to US in 1886:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... 77178#ovre

I don't find his 1889 voyage, but the lists are not complete. He might also have left as a sailor.

This must be Anna and Johanna leaving Norway in july 1890:

She used Anderson (her patronymic) as surname.

Thank you very much for all the information you have provided.

I am thrilled that you were able to confirm that Alfrid did go to America in 1886. I believe I found record of his second trip in 1889 on Ancestry.com. The name is J A Friberg.

Emigranten Popular, 1783-1951
Datadase name: EmiHamm
Archive call Number: 39:531:29059
He is listed as J A Friberg, born abt 1860
Record date: 23 jul 1889
Port of departure: Goteborg
Destination: St. Paul, Minnesota

Any thoughts as to where Anna's family lived in Norway? I am so curious to find out.
I did find something in LDS records that Johanna Friberg (Anna and Alfrid's daughter) was Baptised in Hamre, Hordaland Norway, but I am thinking that this is a mistake because I do not find anything in the census.

I did notice that the names Emma Olsen and Bri?? Olsen appear as witnesses for Anna's marriage and on the Baptismal record for Johanna. Do you think there could be some connection?

Also I was told that one of Anna's brothers died in Oslo in 1921. Any record of that?

Thanks again for your time.
Mary
