Legg inn av brazeau » 31. august 2005 kl. 15.31

I need some help. I have hit a big brick wall when it comes to my dads family, here is what I have

Johnson, Johanson, Johansen, Mathison, Matheson: looking for any information on my grandfather and his parents. Gf is Hatheway Johnson born Oct 10, 1903.St John New Brunswick(in the 1911 census he is listed to be born in 1900 and resided at 225 St James St. in an orphanage asylum), his mothers name was Violet Loretta Mathison (Matheson) and his fathers name is listed as James Johnson (but I believe it was Jens Johanson(I believe he cam over in 1898 from Christina)), he had siblings, brother Cecil Augstin Johanson born Sept 15, 1901,St John New Brunswick, Murray McLeod Johnson born Sept 4 1905, died May 9, 1907, St John New Brunswick, and a sister Mary Helena Johnson born Aug 4, 1907, St John New Brunswick. That is all the information I have of the kids. I am told that gramps father was from Oslo Norway (at the time it was Christina Norway). Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance for reading my plea

You mean "Christiania" (aka Kristiania - the old name for Oslo).
So you are looking for a Jens Johanson (or Johansen) who emigrated
from Norway to Canada in 1898.

Too little to go on for the time being - it is a fairly common
name. Try to find more in Canada - at the very least a rough
estimate for his age - a headstone, death certificate, immigration
records or something like that.

*How* do you know that "James Johnson" was actually Jens Johanson
and that he came to Canada from Oslo, Norway in 1898 ?

Smile,
Stein
