My great-grandmother's maiden name has been shown as Tallafox, Tallefors and
Palafox. Is there any meaning to these names? These names have been used on
different records and I am not sure which is correct, but at least they have
been made me curious as to what they might mean.
Thanks

Tracing my grt-grandparents who came form Sweden and I found some
information on my grt-grandmother, that shows her fathers name to be
Tallafox. Could this be a given name, surname, farm or what? Is it
Swedish?
Could it be Tallefors?

"Tall" = Pine
"fors" = white water, rapids, stream
"Pala" and "fox" does not have any specific meaning in Swedish.
There is no farm with the name "Tallefors" in Sweden, neither the other two.
"Tallefors" seems to be the most probable candidate.
There are a number of persons with that name, go to
http://privatpersoner.gulasidorna.se/
and enter Tallefors in the "Namn"-field.

Re: Help With A Swedish Name
You can look for that surname in the Swedish telephone book at:
http://privatpersoner.eniro.se//
Enter the surname Tallefors in the left-hand box under "Namn/telefonnr/mobilnr"
and then click on "Sök" (search). That will give you: "9 träffar med exakt
stavning: Tallefors" (9 matches with exact spelling: Tallefors)
Then note that the Swedish cities shown are: HUSKVARNA, RYDAHOLM, and HALMSTAD.
If you highlite any of those, it will give you a local map of that area. You
may find map navigation more convenient in English using Mapquest:
http://www.mapquest.com That can show you where each of them is and the Driving
Directions feature will show you that Halmstad is about 65 miles due south of
Husqvarna and Rydaholm is then another 65 miles west & south. That then doesn't
show any particular clustering of the surname around one area although they
aren't all that far apart. Hopefully you have other information & clues that
could lead directly to your ancestor's parish of birth.
