family - Niels Svendsen f ca 1823

We are looking for information on the family of Niels Svendsen, f. ca 1823 and his wife, Maria Monsdtr, f ca 1836

We have a birth record for their son Johannes, born 1857 okt 19 as found in the Ringsaker Ministerialbok 9 page 62 and another son, Sven, born 1862.

But, we are told that there is a third son, Gustav, for which we have little information. Gustav is said to have emigrated to the US and married in 1894 in the US

We found the family in Biri in the 1865 census at http://rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftlist ... 03&lnr=000 , and it appears that Gustav, 11, and his sister Karen Mathea, 22, emigrated from Oslo in 1885 (data from the Gamel DA (GDA) site).

Have found in the book "Utvandringen til Amerika fra Biri, Snertingdal, Vardal, Gjøvik 1846-1915" that shoemaker Svend Nilsen (22) emigrated on the ship Heimdal 24/1 1884 to Chicago.
Parents. Nils Svendsen and Mari Monsdatter, Søreng under Markeng.

A record from Biri dated 1882, No 40, says he left for Gjøvik in 1879

He is supposedly still living on Søreng in 1877, but I do not find the family there in the 1875 census.
His father is landowner (selveier) Nils Svendsen Søreng

There are sveral Johannes Nilsen emigrating from Biri, but this one is possibly the eldest son of Nils Svendsen, leaving for the U.S. on May 18, 1883

Nils Svendsen is no longer alive at this point.

The church records from Snertingdalen and Biri from this period were lost in fire in 1890, but I find a record of Nils Svendsen’s death in 1875 here:
