Bjerklien - information and photos
I am the genealogist for the Nord Hedmark og Hedemarken lag and helping a member do his genealogy.
His ancestors were at the Bjerklien farm for several generations and he would like additional information and perhaps pictures of the farm, as well as a the location on a map.
Unfortunately, its not listed in the part of the 1943 Norske Gardsbruk with the pictures and descriptions (although it is listed in the back), nor can I find a photo associated with the 1910 census on the Digital Archives.
I also can't find it on either Gule Sider nor FINN Kart.
Does anyone have any suggestions how we might find where the farm was located and any information on the farm?
Takk!
John

Re: Bjerklien - information and photos
Bjerkelien, called Bjørkelia in modern Norwegian, is located in Åsmarka, at the center of this map:
http://www.norgeskart.no/#!?project=see ... =268259.61
I would advise you to always use the official maps from the Norwegian Mapping Authority (that is norgeskart.no from Kartverket) instead of the commercial maps from Finn or Gule Sider when you are searching for farms and properties. Kartverket is the national registry of properties.
Here is an aerial photo of the farm taken in 1956

Re: Bjerklien - information and photos
This is great, Matthias -- thanks so much!
Is there some way that people can find out what the current name of a farm is?
Also, are there any places where we could look for a history of farms besides the bygdebøker?
Takk!

Re: Bjerklien - information and photos
I realize now that your question was a bit more challenging than I originally thought.
There are also another Bjerklien in Ringsaker, on the Nes penninsula, so I am not sure which is the one your lagmember is looking for.
According to this book:
Fredheimkretsen i Ringsaker : bygdebok i miniutgave ved 100-årsjubileet,
there is a husmannsplass under Bordal referred to as Bjørklia:
http://www.nb.no/nbsok/nb/00de199f1b437 ... index=3#32
I have not been able to localize it on the map near Bordal:
https://www.norgeskart.no/#!?project=se ... =274273.72
but I find Syverud and Snekkersvea to the south that were also mentioned under Bordal.
This Bjerkelien is included in the 1865 census
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/ru ... 8031001653
and in 1875:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/ru ... 2059001519
and it is different from the Bjerkelien i Åsmarka that I found previously, which in 1875 is listed as
Bjerklien søndre, Bjerklistykket
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/ru ... 2059009556
and
Bjerklien nordre, Bjerklistykket
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/ru ... 2059009566
In the 1900 census, only Bjørklien in Åsmarka is mentioned
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/ru ... 7049001236
so maybe Bjerklien-Bordal was abandoned by then.

Re: Bjerklien - information and photos
