Jeg leter etter informasjon om Lita Mackman f. 1928 i New York til foreldre James og Margaret Mackman. Hennes far er norsk og het egentlig James Mackman Andersen. Han skal ha dødd i 1953 i San Francisco, hvor hans søster m/familie også bodde.

Prøver å finne ut mer om henne; evt. giftemål, barn, osv.

I find James and Margaret Mackman in the 1940 Kings county (Brooklyn) NY census.
Their daughter Lita is 18...so if that is correct she was born 1922 (not 1928)...

Lita er født 24. juli 1927 i følge passasjerlisten når hun og moren kommer tilbake til USA i 1928 etter en tur til Norge.

Sorry if I read the 1940 census wrong...the census writing looked like Lita was age 18....I guess she was 12 years old...
(I guess that was the right family??...James and Margaret Mackman as parents?

Hun kan ha giftet seg, eller brukt andre etternavn, men jeg finner ikke mer informasjon på Lita Mackman. Det finnes adressebøker og telefonkataloger på nett (i alle fall på Ancestry, som er en betaltjeneste), men hun er ikke oppført der heller som Mackman.

Ser for øvrig at hun står oppført flere steder som Lita M. Mackman, så det kan jo også være at hun har sluttet å bruke Lita, og begynt å bruke mellomnavnet sitt...

The record of Lita in the US Nurse Corp is interesting.

She is age 17, in Sept 1944...and she is attending nursing school on Staten Island, NY (near Brooklyn) at Wagner college....our county is in WW 2.

If I understand this card...she is to be a "senior cadet" (in the Nurse corp) in 1947.
But at the bottom of the card...it says "withdrawn" Jan 1945.
Not sure what that means...did she drop out of the Nurse Corp or drop out of college?..and WHY!

Why did her father move to California...?
Did Lita (and her mother??) go with him??

Who ever buried Lita's father, James Mackman, did not know his birth date, since it was listed as "unknown" on his gravestone...that is also a bit strange...
Certainly his wife would know his birth year...if she was alive!!

This is just "food for thought"!
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That was very interesting, Patty! I hadn't thought about it.

Maybe she had to drop out of school because the family moved? Or maybe she was getting married and put her carreer on hold?
I find it a bit odd that there isn't any record of her after that

All thou she has been listed with the wrong year of birth, she is in the emmigrant list in 1936 in Norway as Lita Margrethe Mackman.

If you follow the blue link "forrige" you will find her mother, so I'm quite sure this is her. So, maybe we should look for Margrethe/Margareth Mackman as well? (Notice also that her mothers full first name was Hilma Margrethe..)

Found this on Ancestry....

All thou this person has got the name of Litas mother wrong, I think this must be the correct family. According to the tree, Lita is still alive.
