I have run into a brickwall and I am looking for some help. Here is the situation:
Ane (Anne) Karine Thime married Ole Gabriel Olsen on 9 January 1879. On 8 September 1880 they had a son, Halvor, (St.Petri, Klokkerbok nr.B4, Fodte og dopte 1880, side 83).
Anne was born born 13 Nov 1852 in Stavanger, the daughter of Ingebret Knudsen Thime (b. 1821) and his wife, Johane Margrithe Thime.
Ole Gabriel was born 24 June 1848 in Stavanger, the son of Halvor Olsen and Serine Olesdotter Ranneberg. Serine and Halvor married 26 November, 1844 in Stavanger. Besides Ole Gabriel they had Oluf Martinius (b. 11 April, 1856) and Olava Marie (b. 6 May 1855; dead 29 May, 1855).
Halvor Olsen (b.1818) died 21 June 1874, and Serine Olsdotter then married Ingebret Knudsen Thime 20 August 1876. (Third marriage for Ingebret Knudson Thime).
Ole Gabriel was a seaman (1ste styrmand) and in the seamen's roll he (#2224, Ole Gabriel Halvorsen) is shown as emigrating to America on or after 7 June 1881.
He is still alive in March 1895 when he is mentioned in the obituary for his mother Mrs. Serene Thime in USA. Oluf Martinius Olsen had brought her to America in 1893.
The problem: I cannot find anything about Anne Karine Thime and her son Halvor. Did they emigrate with Ole? Did they stay in Norway and died there? I have searched in the digital archive but cannot find them anywhere. Did they emigrate as Olsen or Halvorsen (as Ole was called in the seamen's roll). I also cannot find any of them in the emigration registers for Stavanger.
I have two other questions: 1. Did the emigrant ships go directly to USA from Stavanger or did emigrants first go to England and from there to the USA?
2.What does the "Hjemvendt norsk-amerikaner" mean as shown on the attached picture from the 1865 census entry for Ane Karine Thime?
Grateful for any suggestions (in English, Swedish or Norwegian!)

Hi
The easy part first:
"Hjemvendt norsk-amerikaner" means "a norwegian-american who has returned home".
This note in the 1865 census was a mistake that occured for a short period of time.
It is now removed:

Thanks, Vivi.
Glad to see it was just a mistake for I was fairly sure Ingebret and family had never been to America.
Now if I only could find out if, and when, Anne Karine and her son went there....!
Ernst.

Re: Ane Karine Olsen and son Halvor Olsen - did they emigrat
I found this in a familytree in Ancestry.
Anne Karine Thime
Birth 13 Nov 1852 in Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway
Death 07 Sep 1948 in Skien, Telemark, Norway
She was married to Ole Gabriel (Halvorsen) Olsen b. 24.june 1848 in Stavanger.
Their son Halvor is born 8.september 1880 in Stavanger.
Sometimes people add people they think is in family, so I can not say that this is the right Anne Karine.

And I think most of the ships had to go to England first or Germany or other countries.

Re: Ane Karine Olsen and son Halvor Olsen - did they emigrat
Thank you for this information.
I have been in contact with the owner of the Ancestry tree and they have no other source that would confirm that Anne Karine Olsen who died in Skien is the same woman that married Ole Gabriel Olsen (Halvorsen). Only the birth year and the names are the same so while it is an option, it is very uncertain.
Are there any other sources that could be consulted regarding Anne Karine Thime/Olsen and her son Halvor Olsen?
Is the reconstructed "Rogaland Emigration Index" available online?
