I am looking for information on the parents of Marit Oldsdt, born in
Åmodt on the 3rd of September, 1853.

I am looking for information on the parents of Marit Oldsdt, born in Åmodt
on the 3rd of September, 1853.

Hi,
I didn't see this until today. We have a couple of places in Norway named
Åmot/Aamot/Aamodt. I found this family in the 1865 census. Could it be the
one you are interested in? The family apparently consisted of a mother and
her three children. The youngest son seems to have a different father from
the other two.

There were two other possible candidates :

Not exactly the right age, but the census doesn't always have the right age.

This one is closer to the age you mentioned.

They both come from a place named Aamodt.

Hei Inger ~

Thanks for the note. Yes, I believe that this is the correct person. We
don't know much about Marit, except that she came from Aamodt in
Østerdalen and later married Christoffer Evensen in the 1870's and came
to America in the 1880's, settling near LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

If anyone comes across more information on this particular Marit
Oldsdatter, we would appreciate hearing about it.

This might be the Christoffer Evensen you mentioned above. The spelling is different, but this name can be written i many different ways.

Romedal is in Hedmark, not so far from Aamot. The age is perhaps a problem?

Thanks so much for the note and link.

I don't think that this is the person that we want. Our's was born in
Løten and then moved to Stor-Elvdal/Åmot, before coming to the US in
1880 and settling in the area around LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

But, I greatly appreciate your help.
