Marie Karen Johannesen (b.1885)

Hallo,

I'm hoping someone can help me locate an ancestor with relatively few clues. I'm not 100% sure where she was born but her death record from the USA says she was born in Oslo.

Here's what I know:

Name: Marie Johnson or Johanesen (Middle or first name could be Karen)
Date of Birth: 17 Dec 1885
Fathers Name: Death record says Olavos but I'm assuming it's Olaves Johannesen.
Mothers Name: ?

She ended up meeting and marrying a man in the USA who was from Hedmark county and she likely emigrated back with him to the USA in 1905. His name was Peder Eriksen/Syversen.

I'm wondering if she really was born in Oslo but maybe they moved up around Hedmark county afterwards but I'm hoping with her exact date of birth and fathers name we might be able to find probable matches. I'd really really appreciate help on this as its become quite the challenge for me.

Yes that is the couple marrying in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She died in 1938 in Chicago. I'm just desperate to find her family line and birth record.

This is excellent news. Thank you so much for finding those. The reason I think I didn't find them was because they were baptized quite awhile after their birth.

I think I found their marriage record. Can someone transcribe it for me. I see her father is Hans Olsen but what is Olavis fathers (Johan Svensen?) name and does it say place of birth? Thanks everyone

Listed at top entry. Born 1838. It seems to be a match but it took place in 1891 and Marie was born in 1885 but baptized in 1893. I guess I assumed he would have been alive for the baptism but maybe not? What do you think?

I'm having trouble tracking down Caroline Hansdatter born 1844 to Hans Olsen birth and death record. Can anyone find those records? Thanks for helping out someone relatively new at this!

The marriage is much easier to read in the Bellmansbook.
About Olaus it is written:
Ungk Arbmand Søren Olaus Johannessen (Ungk[ar] = bachelor, Arbmand [arbeidsmann]=worker)
His birthplace is Nygaardseie i Vestre Aker
His age is 31 3/4 = born about 1837, (but "your" church book says 30 ?/3 = born 1838)
His father is Hsmd Johannes Svendsen Bakken under Ammerud (Hsmd [husmand] = cotter, Bakken is the name of the farm he runs and it is a subfarm of Ammerud)

The Søren Olavus you found born April 8, 1838 with parents Johannes Svendsen and Torine Johnsdatter was born at Nygaardseie, seems correct.

Also the Søren Olaus Johannessen you found who died April 24, 1891 seems correct.
He was born 1838 at Nygaardseie and when he died his residence is Bakken (same as his father's residense when Olaus and Karoline married).

About Karoline/Caroline Hansdatter.
The marriage tells she is born in Lørenskoven (Lørenskog). The farmname looks like Laasbye (not sure).
She is 24 1/2 years old = born abut mid 1844.

Lørenskog was a part of Skedsmo untill 1908. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%B8renskog
In Skedsmo you find a Caroline born June 18, 1844 with father Hans Olsen and mother Dorothea Christophersen. They live on a farm called Laasbyeie.

The marriage also tells that Karoline/Caroline's father is dead.

Karoline/Caroline in the 1900 census, remarried and with two children from first marriage.

She remarried in a civil marriage June 22, 1895.
Her husband was Josef Alfred Nilsen. His father was Nils Peter Andersen. Nilsen was his patronymic, but in the census he uses his father's surname. (There is a lot of confusion in surnames in Norway around 1900!)

In the 1910 census they are living in Nittedal. Her date of birth is a few days off (very common in the 1910 census).:

His only relative was a half brother in Oslo. Nothing about Karoline's relatives in Dødsfallprotokollen.
