I would like to know if there is a listing for Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter of Tondevold and Loftingmoe in the Lesja bygdebok. They were married on 29 July 1749 at Lesja. They had at least five children together, born at both farms from 1747 to 1757. Marit, who died on the 14 October 1770, died at Loftingmoen. Morten (Martin), who died 2 May 1773, also died at Loftingmoen: http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... mn=lesjabg
Any information regarding this family would be very much appreciated, Larry Justad.

Re: Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter of Tondevol
Hi Larry,
I do not have the Lesja bygdebok now, but I made some notes from it earlier on. According to my notes Morten Engebretsen was born i 1710, and Marit Engebretsdatter in 1731. My family connection is through Morten, he is the brother of my 5 x great grandfather Engebret Engebretsen. They also had two sisters, Sigrid and Marit.
The ancestors of Morten and Engebret can be traced further back for several generations. Too much to list here, and I don't know what you allready have, but if you have any spesific wishes, I will be happy to help you out.
According to my notes, Morten and Marit had 7 children, I have only registered the son Engebret Mortensen Løftingsmoen, born 1747, d. 1825. He married (1771) his cousine Marit Engebretsdatter, born 1745, d. 1814. She was the daughter of my 5 x great grandfather Engebret Engebretsen. 6 children, but I did not make notes of their names.
Regards Erling

Re: Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter of Tondevol
Dear Erling,
Thank for responding to my query. I believe that I am a descendant of one of Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter's daughters. Their daughter was baptized as Anne Mortensdatter on 9 January 1752 at Lesja: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-175
There is no further reference to an Anne Mortensdatter in the parish records. However, there is a reference to a Marit Mortensdatter who died at Loftingmoen at the age of 24: http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =2211#ovre
Since she died at this farm and was exactly the age of the child who was baptized as Anne, it seems very likely to me that this was the same person. There is no reference to an Anne Mortensdatter anywhere in the parish records as dying, marrying, or any other reference. Also, there is no Anne Mortensdatter in the 1801 census for Lesja, who would have been that age. There is no record of a birth or baptism of a Marit Mortensdatter. Therefore, it seems logical to me that this is the same person. Also, there is no Marit Mortensdatter in the 1801 census who would fit this description. The name must have been incorrectly recorded at the time of her baptism. I also believe that Marit Mortensdatter is the mother of my great-great-great-great-grandfather, Ole Olsen, who was born illegitimately on 14 June 1771, the son of Ole Olsen of Fossen and Marit Martinsdatter:

If you have any additional information about the children of Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engeberetsdatter or their ancestors, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you, Larry

Re: Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter of Tondevol
From Bygdebok for Lesja vol. 2 (1992) page 474, Nilsplassen, Åsen:
1-3. Sist i 1740-åra? – fyrst i 1770-åra.
Barn:
1. Engebret, 1747, tok over.
2. Syver, 1749, sjå Huset, Kollstad (8-7).
3. Anne, 1751-?, elles ukjent.
4. Engebret, 1754, sjå Høgbrenna, Brennjord (8-1b) og Botten, her (69-1).
5. Marit, ca. 1751-75.
6. Martin, 1757, sjå Jenslykkja, Belle (9-1).
7. Ågot, 1761, sjå Nistugu Skålgard (2-1).
Ei Anne Martinsd. gjekk til altars på Tynnøl i 1744. Ho kan ha vore dotter til Martin frå før han gifta seg.
---
As you can see, both Anne 1751 and Marit ca 1751 ("ca" means baptism was not found in the church record) are both listed (should have been next to each other), Marit as dead in 1775. Unfortunately I cannot go further into your questions at the time beeing.

Re: Morten Engebretsen and Marit Engebretsdatter of Tondevol
Mr. Kjelland, thank you very much for your information. I am somewhat familiar with your expertise, and it is very much respected and appreciated. Looking at the information you have provided on Anne and Marit Mortensdatter it seems to enhance my belief that Anne and Marit are very likely indeed the same person. Larry Justad
