For information -
Ancestry.com has an offer at:
http://landing.ancestry.com/records/rec ... s_offer_v2
for the US Records Collection. That page clearly indicates that the
offer includes the US Census and much more. IT DOES NOT ! I would
warn everyone to be very careful of the offers on Ancestry's pages.
I took 'advantage' of this offer - only to find that it was not what
was advertised. I called Ancestry immediately and, after many words
and a review of the webpage, was assured that the account was
cancelled and that an immediate refund was to be made. This also DID
NOT HAPPEN !
I have filed an FTC complaint regarding this issue, and would strongly
suggest that each and every person who has a similar problem with
these folks do the same. I have no problem paying for services but I
do have a problem with advertisements that appear fraudulent and
failure to provide prompt refunds when it is discovered. The FTC
website is at http://www.ftc.gov/
By the way - you will note the misleading page is still active !!

You can't make these accusations without providing some evidence of
their wrongdoing.

I am not an "Ancestry.com shill". I am however, a long time user of
Ancestry.com. I'm a professional genealogy researcher, and I access it
very often....and I'm quite satisfied with the products they provide.
My curiosity about Clarence's accusatory posting comes from the fact
that I subscribe to the very same collection----and I receive exactly
what it claims to provide in the box labeled "What do you get?". There
is nothing stated in the ad that I do not receive. The banner of the ad
suggests that you receive the "U.S. Census"....but in the "What do you
get?" box it specifies that you get the "U.S. Federal Census Indexes".
To quote (in part) you.... "How much more clearly do you want....." the
ad to state "What do you get?"
I suspect that Clarence simply did not exercise a long standing proviso
("Let the buyer beware"), and also did not read the full ad---and jumped
to the conclusion that he was receiving the entire census collection.
I do agree with one statement Clarence made: "I would warn everyone to
be very careful of the offers on Ancestry's pages." That is a good
practice with any offer from anyone. If in doubt, contact the
advertiser for clarification.
My question to Clarence stands: What did the ad say was provided that
was not? How was the ad fraudulent (intentional pervasion of truth)?

You could set up other 'free' email addresses if your ISP

If spammers hit the disposable address hard enough to be a

The website cited lists eight things under "What do you get?":

. Social Security Death Index
. Birth, Marriage and Death Records
. Military Records
. Slave Narratives
. Court, land and probate records
. Regional histories
. City directories
and three more things under "Plus":
. Online Learning Center
. Ancestry World Tree

Which of these eleven resources was C.W. unable to access? It would be
