Know of a good CENSUS recording program?

(Wow, I'm really surprised by how many posts have been made in this NG
lately - too bad none of them were actually about genealogy...)

Does anyone know of a good program for recording census data? I use FTM and
can log census data in the notebook or source entries, but what I'm really
looking for is program that will produce blank census forms, allow me to
"fill in the blanks", and then save the files in some sort of searchable
database. The searchable function doesn't have to be anything more than
being able to scroll through a list of the saved census, showing the
year/location. I know I can always create individual copies of the census in
Word or Excel, but that would take a lot of time and somewhat clumsy to use.
I'd like to find a program that can do all of this more efficiently.

Thanks-
WEC

Yes - Custodian does exactly what you ask for amongst many other things such
as certificates and for other countries besides the UK.

Well, I don't have any specific program, but I do have an XML Schema
describing and XML file which I can then render using an XSLT Stylesheet.
This allows me to capture census information as an XML file.
Then using the stylesheet I can browse that captured data using a Web
Browser, or select particular subsets from the XML file to create census
info for a particular family. To see this in action you can look at my
family website http://www.mcmenemy.org/AJM then chose any of the families itemised
there and look at their census pages.
I must say I'm rather hooked on this technique, and now have schemas and
stylesheets for all my vital records. Seems future proof, and can adapt to
any new format by creating or changing the stylesheet. (again if you look at
the website, review a family story, and look for items where the word born
or married is highlighted as a link... click, et voila a birth or marrigae
certificate from an XML file. (Still adding these at present, so not all
births or marriages are yet wired up).
