Dear Newagroup ~

Those wishing to read the transcript of a contemporary medieval record
relating to Owen Tudor may do so in the book, Proceedings and
Ordinances of the Privy Council of England, by Sir Harris Nicolas,
volume 5 (1835): xvi-xix,
46-49.----------------------------------------published in 1835
snip
And, yes, Sir Harris calls her Katherine of France, not Catherine de
Valois. In the document itself, she is called "Quene Kat[r]ine" ...
"whom God assoile."
Dear Mr. Richardson,

Elizabeth Hallam in "The Plantagenet Encyclopedia" has an entry for
Katherine, who she calls Catherine.
Catherine of France
1401-1437 Also known as Catherine of Valois, and so on

Trying to be correct is a commendable aim, but at times "usage" wins out. If
you insist that it can only be Katherine of France, can you tell me where is
Gaunt in Flanders? Where is Florence to be found in Italy? The English have
"stuffed up" several names, why I do not know. What is wrong with Gent or
Firenze?

With best wishes
