Hello,
in a german internet-chat I've read that it is possible to copy films of
church records to CD at the Family History Library of the LDS in Utha.
Every person can got to the FHL and make a copy. Is that correct?
Thanks for your answers.

Thomas

Re: Copy film records to a CD
Yes, that is correct --- however, in our FHC you cannot copy the whole film,
and I am not sure that all FHC are the same --- but in ours you can only
copy the material dealing directly with your family, IF there is not a note
from Salt Lake saying that you cannot copy. Also, at our FHC there is no
charge for doing this. But you might want to bring your own CD if you have
a particular brand you like.
In our FHC we can also copy documents and transfer them to a CD, and
microfiche.

When it is implemented around the world hopefully everyone reads the

working order.

Hi From Down under,
Seems as if we are lagging behind on this one, it will be well worth it
when this technology is finally implemented around the world.
When it is implemented around the world hopefully everyone reads the
manual on how it works so if it breaks down it can then be put back into
working order.

You can't copy the entire film, no*. But yes, there's a way
to make a paper or digital copy of the bits you need. The
Catch? You only get 30 minutes a day to do this. Once
you're experienced, you can probably make upward of 50
images in 30 minutes, but the first time you'll be lucky to
get 10. I don't believe the FHL charges, except you have to
buy THEIR CDs (or you did last I heard).
Many of the local FHCs also have the capability, but most
have a small charge for copies, some charge for both copies
and images, other charge for both those and for time on the
machine since it's very popular.

*At the FHL, time constraints alone prohibit it; otherwise,
there's the copyright issue and the contract issue, both of
which limit the number of pages one can copy.
