Is the best to use? I currently use FTM but was just wondering if there
was anything better.

"Best" is a relative term. Best at what? Ease of data entry? Best at
allowing entering conflicting data? Best at sourcing data?

There is no One Size Fits All "Best".

I consider The Master Genealogist to be the most advanced that offers
the user the most options. It is "best" for me but others may see
things differently.

Pro-Gen, genealogy à la carte ?
Dutch product, but availlable in many languages!

Hi Michelle,

Most serious genealogists would probably use more that one software program
but usually keep the one as their master copy. I use FTM as my master but
absolutely love Legacy with its birthday reminders and it has several good
points with the photos being in a file that are easily accessible and it
also has some good reports.

I also use Family Historian because it has a printout of descendant outline
which I prefer than any of the others. I also use Brothers Keeper which has
a wonderful family tree printout that fits on one A4 page and shows at a
glance you cousins and aunts and uncles. For five generations it is great
but to go further back you have to use more than one A4 page. I also use
Heredes which has a printout of a family tree which shows horizontal bars
and you can follow the family tree easily.

I used to really hate the picture section of FTM because it saves in a PDF
format and they cannot be accessed as just a file but it is not such a
problem now I have purchased Adobe Acrobat 7 and can convert them back to
Jpeg.

It is easy to transfer the information to each program using gedcom and when
the very clever software writers come up with a gedcom that transfers photos
I will be really set.

But I keep my FTM as my master.

Why does mail to you bounce? Is this a troll?

Simply stated look at RootsMagic, Legacy and The Master Genealogist
and take your choice.
