Legacy date format

Legg inn av Martin » 27. februar 2006 kl. 16.19

BMD indexes in the UK supply the date as 'Quarter
Year'. I thought I read somewhere that Legacy could
cope with such a date format. Can anyone tell me how
to enter such a date as 'Quarter 3 1876' ? If I enter
Sep 1876 how do I know that could be Jul or Aug or
Sep?

Thanks - Martin

experience

we all do that
the lack of a day number indicates it is a quarter

if you are fussy type
jul-sep1876
no spaces needed

which FTM 2006
turns into
Bet. Jul - Sep 1876

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8964

returns

1876 Jan-Feb-Mar
1876 Apr-May-Jun
1876 Jul-Aug-Sep
1876 Oct-Nov-Dec

which FTM 2006 rejects

on the other had I am fussy about christenings and burials
and enter them in birth or death fields as
Bef. 12 Oct 1886
which means I don't have an accurate birth or death date

birth - christening can be 5 years or more after birth
14 in my own case
