Index of published GEDCOMs

Legg inn av Gjest » 1. februar 2006 kl. 14.46

Greetings:

I am announcing a new genealogy site consisting of an index of entries
in published (on the web) GEDCOM files.

The site is at http://GEDCOMindex.com

Entries are grouped geographically, with some detail to help you see if
it's your Mordecai LINCOLN or a different one. If you think it's yours,
click on the link to download the GEDCOM file off somebody else's site,
and open a new folder in your genealogy software to import it into.

For those who don't know it, GEDCOM files are special genealogy files
readable by almost any genealogy software.

I applaud the intention, but you have a link for each person. That leads
to looking through a page with 100 links to the same ged file.

THAT is aggravating.

How about the links being changed to 'DOWNLOAD http:/x.y.z/joe.ged'? That
way, the user can see that a page offeres 100 links to the SAME ged file.

Good luck.

The clergy successfully preached the doctrines of
patience and pusillanimity; the active virtues of
society were discouraged; and the last remains of
the military spirit were buried in the cloister;
a large portion of public and private wealth was
consecrated to the specious demands of charity and
devotion; and the soldiers' pay was lavished on
the useless multitudes of both sexes...The sacred
indolence of the monks was devoutly embraced by
a servile and effeminate age..

The link URL appears in the status window near the bottom of the screen
when you mouse over, allowing you to see whether it's the same URL or
not, and refreshing the page makes the visited links change colour.

Try looking here, http://tngnetwork.lythgoes.net/

You can search for surnames or for individuals and then be taken directly
to the website where the database resides.

And no, you don't have to purchase or use TNG to use this site.

Is there any way we can search the whole site at once to find a surname, or
must we check each individual town in each country? Thanks for a reply.
