Vaaramaa/Vahakangas

Legg inn av Mike & Linda Beaudet » 16. oktober 2005 kl. 0.06

Hi.

I am searching for Jakob Vahakangas/Vaaramaa who was married to Jemiina
Silven. They are both from Finland and were also married there.

They emigrated to the USA in 1890 and both died on May 28, 1927. Unsure of
where they went, cannot find any definite records. Possibly Ashtabula, Ohio
or Wasas, Michigan.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Linda

If your Jacob Vaaramaa was born 1877 in Ylivieska, Finland, as a
passport record of the Finnish Emigrant register in 1900 indicates, his
address in the US was No: 46 Franklin Str., Fitchburg, Mass. between
1889 and 1904 ,according to the Ellis Island database where he is found
as "Jacob Vaaraman" 27 years of age arriving on the S.S. Teutonia on
March 23, 1904.
I do not however know the reason why his record in the EI manifest is
crossed out. It would have been his third American journey. Please also
notice that this Jacob Vaaramaa would have been only abt. 12 years in
1889 and therefore probably not traveling alone in 1899. It is not
possible to find any passenger records in the Finnish passenger
database for 1899 as the register does not begin until 1892 and he was
not in the Castle Garden database.

There is a link to a map of Fitchburg 1915 with Franklin Street at

oops! ..."traveling alone in 1899. It is not

ought to be

"traveling alone in 1889. It is not

I can find nothing in the census records in the US that even comes
close.
How do you know they both died on the same day? What's your source?
Have you gotten copies of their death certificates and obituaries?
Margit
