Swedish Emigration Record

Legg inn av Robert Lightburn » 3. september 2005 kl. 10.55

Hello all,

I found a record of my great grandfather, Frans August Andersson, in the
"Card index to emigration and immigration to Kalmar county 1875-1900"
(Personregister till SCB:s nominitiva förteckningar över in- och utvandrare
1875-1900, Kalmar län) LDS microfilm 1703178 as follows:

Andersson Fran (sic) August 21
Christianopel K
Chicago, Ill
1880 24/4 L4a:1:442

The way I interpret this record is that he was 21 years old when he left
Christianopel (Blekinge county) on 24 April 1880. His stated destination
was Chicago, Illinois. I have two questions. Is Christianopel a port?
What document does "L4a:1:442" refer to?

TIA for any help.

Kristianopel is a small port.
Frans August Andersson didn´t reside in Kristianopel as he is not noted in
the "Utflyttningslängd" for 1880.
I do not know what the "L4a:1:442" refer to.

Thanks, Kurt. Guess I've got to get myself a map of Sweden!

You don´t have to. Go to http://www.gis.lst.se/lanskartor/ and pick Blekinge
and Hela K-län and "Öppna Tittskåp".
You will see Kristianopel at the right hand side of the coastline.
