Holter family name, 1730-1830

Legg inn av gj09631 » 29 jul 2016 04:04:12

I am researching a family which maintains the family name of Holter, although they lived at farms with other names. The people include:

Johan Olsen, b 1737, later became a sergeant
Ole Johannsen, b 1775, later became a corporal
Johan Olsen, b 1798

Holter is one of the 'fixed" names researched by Wilhelm Lassen. However, in looking through his records on this name, I could not find any of the above.

Does anyone know of some resources that I might look at to find out more of this family?

Yes, this is one of the people in the genealogy that we are researching.

The question is why the Holter name is used as the place of residence, when no such farm seems to exist in Tynset. Instead, Holter seems to be a 'fixed' name which goes from one generation to another, regardless of where the family actually lives.

Thanks,

John

I 1799 er sersjant Johan Holter talsmann for en gruppe oppsittere. (s. 59)
