Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter were married at Stange on 3 January 1804:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-111
He was listed as a constable and she was from Osvold. A constable in English is a policeman. Is it the same in Norwegian or is this some military title or an esteemed position? He was not listed in the 1801 census for Stange and I cannot find him in the 1801 census anywhere in Norway. I cannot determine which Kari Ericksdatter is my ancestor in the 1801 census. There are several women by that name in the 1801 census, but there is no listing for a farm named Osvold in the census. They had a daughter, Marthe, who was born at Gillund and baptized at Stange on 9 September 1804:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-54
Their younger daughter was my great-great-great grandmother, Karen Jacobsdatter. She was born in Stange, but was not baptized there. The family moved to Bolsoy, More og Romsdal, where she was baptized on 26 December 1805:

Any information on the origin of Jacob Knudsen or Kari Ericksdatter would be greatly appreciated. Larry Justad

Hi Lawrence.
Osvold Vestre and Osvold östre it´s under Stange prestegaard.
http://www.hedmarkslekt.no/Bokindex/sbindex.htm
Look at Stange Prestgaard.
In their marriage it sais he was an Ungk.(arl) (bachelor)Afskediget( discharged) Constabel and Osvold was their adress at the time they got married.
I belive he isn´t from Hedmark at all - I don´t find him in the 1801 census eighter. Sorry I can´t help you more at the time.
This Kari http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... 17236#ovre is married to someone else - Vestre Hommerstad(Klokkergaarden) in the link above sais so: Erik Amundsen Frostad, f. 18/12 1753 d. 2/5 1831, (sønn av Amund Eriksen og Kari Fredriksdtr. Sønstebø, Kvam, Gudbrandsdal). 1782 g. m. Kari Olsdtr. nedre Klomstad (1750-1830). Barn: 1) Ole, f. 1794, d. 14/11 1871, 1821 g. m. Ingeborg Kristofersdtr. Løken (1801- 68 ), eier av Løken, ordfører 1843-46. 2) Kari, f. 1782, d. 24/1 1837, 30/7 1802 g. m. Engebret Alfsen Hommerstad (1761-1852). 3) Tora, f. 1791. Kari dies in 1837.
Then you have only this one in Stange which is old enough for marriage in 1801: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... 19442#ovre
Perhaps she is not from Stange eighter. Have you find them dead?
This Kari will be 18 in 1804 so it could be her to: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... 18815#ovre

Hi Larry,
Your urls do not work. Try this for urls that will work.
Norwegian Churchbooks online:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read
Choose English at the top of the page. Then on the left side choose "User's guide" and it will give you instructions on how to use the records. When you get into the actual records, the instructions below should help you with saving the information to your computer or sending the permanent page site to someone to help with translation of record.
Instructions for Reading Norwegian Churchbooks and to Bookmark them:
The links to the scanned images on the Digitalarkivet Churchbooks can be copied and pasted from the actual page from the display option available. At the top of the scanned image page is the option labeled Bildeinformasjon: (Norwegian version)/Image Information (English version( which is set to Ingen (Norwegian version) and means None in English. There are 3 choices and of the three choices I like Øverst (Norwegian version) which means On Top in English because it puts the information across the top of the page and is easier to see.
The first line Kildeinformasjon: (Norwegian version)/Source information (English version) is a really nice summary of the source of the information and is wonderful to have for making detailed source citations, footnotes, etc.
The second line Permanent sidelenke: (Norwegian version)/Permanent pagelink (English version) is the best line to capture if you want to save the exact URL location or share the actual scanned image and the source information. It allows the full capabilities for zooming in and out to best view the image and informs the recipient of the exact location, book and other details to be able to find the place you found the information.
The third line Permanent bildelenke: (Norwegian version)/Permanent imagelink (English version) is the one to use to print a copy of the image or to save a copy of the image in jpg format. This line will not capture the source information and therefore is not the line to copy to share online when requesting help or assistance in translating the image found.

Re: Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
Were Karen and Marthe the only children born to the couple? Have you found their confirmation records? Have you checked the coming in and going out records of the Church?

Re: Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
As far as I understand the churchbook in Bolsøy Karen was born and bapt there. She was Jacob and Kari's second child. Kari was born in Stange but not Jacob. At the moment I do not know which Kari and I do not know where Jacob came from. Do you know when Jacob and Kari died? There are 3 Kari Erichsdatter born i Stange, 2 in 1775 and 1 in 1786 which could be the right one.
Re: Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
As far as I know Marthe and Karen were their only children. The family moved to Bolsoy, More og Romsdal in 1805. Karen moved to Dovre, Lesja, Oppland, where she was confirmed in 1825. Notice in the register where it lists her parents' names, their residence (Moldgaard), and it lists Karen's birthplace as Stange:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-254
According to this record, Karen Jacobsdatter was born in Stange, but baptized at Bolsoy, More og Romsdal. I have not been able to find any record whatsoever of Jacob Knudsen, Kari Ericksdatter, or their daughter Marthe Jacobsdatter after Karen Jacobsdatter's baptism in 1805.
Karen Jacobsdatter went on to marry Ole Olsen at Dovre church in Lesja, Oppland, on 27 December 1828:

Re: Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
It seems very likely that Kari Ericksdatter had an illegitimate child who was baptized on 23 February, 1800:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-43
It says she is from Osvold, the same residence as my ancestor when she married in 1804. The father is listed as Anders Pedersen of Skattum in Vang. He is listed in the 1801 census:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... k=649#ovre
Kari Eriksdatter's child is not listed in the 1801 census. Perhaps she was not listed either and was somehow overlooked. I notice that an illegitmate child, John Christophersen, who is listed right below Kari Eriksdatter's child, is listed in the 1801 census, so one can't say that infants were omitted from the census:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =2337#ovre
If Erick Andersen was the illegitimate child of my Kari Ericksdatter, it seems that he was given up for adoption by her. On 1 October 1815 Erick Andersen was confirmed at the Stange church. It lists his father as Lieutenant Naesser of Guthuus:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-135
This same Lieutenant Naesser served as a godparent at my Kari Ericksdatter's daughter's baptism in 1804:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-54
Lieutenant Naesser is not listed in the 1801 census.

Re: Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter married 1804
I now know that Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter did not move to Bolsoy, More og Romsdal, but were just passing through there on their way back to Stange, when Kari gave birth to their daughter, Karen Jacobsdatter, on 26 December 1805: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-52
I do not know where they had been, but I have a hunch they may have been to Jacob Knudsen's native parish, wherever that was.
Jacob Knudsen and Kari Ericksdatter continued to live in Stange and proceeded to have three more children, all dying at birth: http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =1813#ovre
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =1951#ovre
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =2141#ovre
I have not been able to find any further records whatsoever for Jacob Knudsen, his wife Kari Ericksdatter, or their daughter, Martha Jacobsdatter after 1810.

I have found Kari Erichsdatter's burial: http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =2318#ovre I now believe she was the daughter of Erick Knudsen and Goro Larsdatter of Rotlien baptized 30 April 1775: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 120783.jpg
I cannot find any recording of her husband, Jacob Knudsen, leaving Stange or dying in Stange.

The widower Jacob Knudsen of Gillundseie married the widow Lovise Dahlberg on 18 April 1812:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 130199.jpg
She is not listed in the 1801 census in Stange or anywhere else in Norway. I can find no other record of her prior to or after this time. I also find no record of him after this time anywhere. Any information regarding either of these people would be greatly appreciated.
