Hvor er Mo? (Nes Bb del 4 s 496)

Nederst i første spalte i Bygdebok for Nes 4 s 496 står det at Berthe Gulbrandsdatter var fra Mo.
Jeg finner via indeksen for Hedemarkslekt at det er en Mo i Nes B.2. del 1. s 308. men denne Mo kan ikke stemme. Så hva er Mo i denne sammenheng? Jeg har fjernlånt alle bygdebøkene for Nes.

There is a Mo farm in the 1st Del, on page 308. It was part of Maurud, and earlier pages in the book also have references to it. BTW, a comprehensive index to the Nes bygdebøker is available for free download at the web page of the Nord Hedmark og Hedemarken Lag, http://www.nhohlag.org.

If that doesn't work, I had a similar problem recently and the name given was of the parish rather than a farm.

I see that there is a Mo sokn in Nord-Odal, as well as Mo parishes in three other fylker.

I wish I had some advice on how to confirm or eliminate this as a choice.

One avenue that comes to mind is that the bygdebok lists the son Jens as having been born at the farm in Nes (Mengshoel-eie) in 1790. But there is an older son, Gulbrand, also born there in 1786. By tradition, the first son should have been named Jens. So, perhaps he is deceased. Maybe he was born (and maybe died) in Mo sokn.

Thank you John for your contribution. I also found Mo i Nes Volume 2, but this farm is of recent date. It is possible that the author does not mean the farm Mo, but believes Mo parish, located in Nord-Odal, further east in Hedmark, but neither here have I found Marthe's baptism. Mo is a common name in Norway and is known in a number of places. As a smalholder/cotterer, they may have come from outside, because I also do not find the marriage to Lars Jensen and Marthe Gulbrandsdatter in Ringsaker/Nes. I have found 6 children here from 1784-1800.

If I am reading the Nes b. 2 correctly, it seems to me that Mo was an informal place on the farm before it formally split from the main farm. But, finding records from the small places is a challenge.

And, I had the same problem as you in looking for records in the parish record. The search is part of the fun of genealogy, but it is also frustrating at times....

Thanks for the reference to your site. I will look at it and put it in my list of references as well as pass it along to other lag genealogists. We have an umbrella lag organization (Bygdelagenes Fellesraad) and they are forming a list of local family history sites.
