I am trying to fine out more information on my tip tip oldefar Magnus Larsen. He was born in 1772 and married Margreta Mattiasdatter in Trondheim in 1805. In the 1801 census he is shown as a lodger in the home of Olava Olsdatter and her son Ole Arnesen Moe. Magnus was an artilleryman. Two other younger artillerymen were also lodgers in this household. Is there anyway to find more information on Magnus from army records? I would like to find out if he was born in Trondheim as well as more information on his parents. He and his first wife had 5 children. Their oldest son, Lars Magnusen, was my tip oldefar who moved to Orland and later to Aafjord where he married Olava Marie Jacobsdatter Tiltrem. For members interested in DNA research, our Y-DNA haplogroup is I-M253.
Thank you for your help.
mvh

Re: Magnus Larsen
What were his children called? It is possible that they were named after grandparents, which might be a clue to finding Magnus's parents.

Re: Magnus Larsen
Hei: His children from his first marriage to Margrethe Mathiasdatter were:
Lars Magnusen f. 1806
Mortinius Magnusen
Haldor Magnusen
Bergitte Magnusdatter
Peter Magnusen
The name of the second son was passed on to my oldefar Martinius Magnus Larsen. Perhaps these names will help.
Thanks for you attention:

Re: Magnus Larsen
Yes that's a possibility as he has the right name and is in Skogn as suggested from the marriage book. This Lars Ericsen seems pretty old to be Magnus's father at 48, then again his daughter is age 30 in the census which places her birth in 1771 the year before Magnus' birth. I suppose he may have gotten a kaarbrev from the Arntsen family to stay on the farm (I guess Nygaard is the farm). This is the best possibility so far so thanks very much.

Re: Magnus Larsen
Yes, that's his birth alright. I have real trouble reading the handwriting though (It's as bad as mine). Is his mother's name Martha or Margrethe? I have the latter in my records.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
