Carl Johan Clausen on the 1865 census for Trondheim
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ft ... 20&lnr=000

Have checked the parish records for Domkirken and for Vår Frue kirke for all of 1842 and 1843, but could not find Carl Johan Clausen.
He must be somewhere, he is on the 1865 census

Hello again

I can find one Carl Johan Clausen. But the father is not Claus Hansen and the year and date of his birth is not correct. I cannot say if this is the Carl Johan Clausen I found on the 1865 census. I have tried to look for a Claus Hansen on the 1865 census, but could not find him. He could of course have died before that census was taken. Or perhaps he did not exist???

The parents of the other Carl Johan I have found on the census, also two sisters. See nos. 130-133
Here the name is spelt Jakob Klaussen - spelling was not so standardized in those days.
And the sister Alberinne - that must be Albertine.

And here in the confirmation of that Carl Johan Clausen in the cathedral in Trondheim (no. 28 )

Here is the baptism record. He was baptized in Bakke church. I don't know Trondheim so well, but I think that at that time it was perhaps a little bit outside the town.

Carl Johan is no. 36
Parents Jacob Clausen and Bereth Lucie Andersdatter

I don't know what you think of this Carl Johan Clausen I have found?
If he is interesting I could find more information on his parents etc. They were from Strinden (today: Strinda)

In addition to the two sisters who are on the 1865 census there are also - at least - sisters Karen Sophie born 1839 and Anna Elisabeth born 1846 (found them on FamilySearch, have not checked the parish records)
There is also a sister Martha born in 1837

If there are probate records in the Regional Archive in Trondheim (Statsarkivet i Trondheim), that could have information about their children and if they had a son in America.

Hi,
I am the great, great grandson of Carl Johan Clausen(I think). Solveig Quinney started this inquiry at my request after meeting with her and Jerry Paulson at the Norwegian-American Geneological Center in Madison, Wisconsin. You mentioned probate records in Trondheim. How hard is it to access these records? It would be beneficial to know if the records show that Jakob Clausen's son Carl Johan emigrated to the US. The US 1870 census shows a Carl Johan Clausen in Chicago which is where my gg grandfather lived before he moved to California. Thank you for the other information you have provided. It has been very enlightening. The information I had about Carl Johan's father being Claus Hansen is really only from one reference. In fact, it appears it might have been a reference to Jakob Clausen's father? Thanks again.

Hello Jeff Clausen

You could try to contact Statsarkivet i Trondheim: [email protected]

Give them the information you have about when the parens of Carl Johan Clausen died etc.
It is possible they can find some material having information that they had a son in America.

http://www.arkivverket.no/arkivverket/A ... /Trondheim

I cannot see that the archive has pages in English

By the way, the occupation of Carl Johan Clausen in Norway was "murer" (bricklayer)
