Fant noe interessant om hans søster som dro til Amerika:

------------

From information received from Krisian Svee

In 1881 Ellen and Johan Christian emigrated to America. Elen was 69 years and JC was 62 years of age. The passenger list shows that they travelled from Trondheim Jul 14 1881 with the steam ship Tasso, and their destination was Canton in South Dakota. Their real destination was Glenwood in Clay County in South Dakota. Ellen and JC's daughter Anna Amalie, the daughter of Johan Christian and Ellen Johanna, was living in Glenwood with her husband Sivert Larsen Hovde and at least three children. Sivert was from one of the neighboring farms in Orland. Ellen Johanna died the same year after arriving in America. It could have been the strain of the long voyage, the different environment or simply old age that caused Allen Johanna to pass away shortly after arriving in Glenwood. Johan Christian lived on in Glenwood another 18 years until 1899. There are many indications that he went back for visits to "the old country" several times in that period.

Both Ellen Johanna and Johan Christian are buried at The Hovde Cemetery in Clay County where you can still find their headstones.
