Oppslag på Ancestry

Legg inn av Marit Nyhus » 28 jul 2011 14:39:51

Hei

Mvh

Hello Margit

I know where Tora and Thorston Thompson lived and when they where born.
Thorston was born in 1874 in Minnesota and Tora was born in Lom in Norway in 1877.
Thorston died in Minnehaha in SD in 1930 and Tora died at the same place in 1933.
They had 6 children, one of them died at 12 weeks.

If it is possible, I want to know who posted the information about the family Thompson on Ancestry.
Perhaps it is one of their descendants.

Marit

Yes, but I need more information to find them in one of the four different databases that ancestry has to keep information in.

There are several others who have them in their trees also, with lots of pictures.

Thorston T Thompson was born in 1874 in Minnesota. He married Thora Lyhus, who was born in Lom, Norway in 1878. They were married May 28, 1902. He farmed west of Colton, South Dakota. He also taught school at Baltic, South Dakota, was Superintendant of Schools of Minnehaha County and Superintendant of Beloit Children's Home, Beloit, Iowa. He was a State Representative from Minnehaha County to the legislature in Pierre, South Dakota at the time of his death in 1930.

More Info:

THORSTEN T. THOMPSON.

It is ability that has gained for Professor Thorsten T. Thompson
the high position which he now occupies in educational circles of South
Dakota as superintendent of schools of Minnehaha county. He was born on
a farm in Freeborn county, Minnesota, May 13, 1874, and is a son of
Thorsten and Anna (Opadhl) Thompson, who were pioneers of Minnehaha
county, having moved there in 1874. He acquired his early education in
the district schools of his native county and later entered Augustana
College at Canton, South Dakota, leaving that institution in 1897. He
was also a student in the Sioux Falls Business College.

Following the completion of his studies Mr. Thompson turned his
attention to teaching in Minnehaha county and afterward farmed and
taught school until 1907. In that year he was made principal of a
school at Baltic, Minnehaha county, and his excellent work in that
capacity won him the election on January 1, 1911, to the office of
county superintendent of schools. He was re-elected without opposition
in 1912 and has since discharged the duties of his responsible position
in a capable and progressive way. Since attaining his majority he has
given his entire life to educational work and has become a recognized
leader in this field. He is also greatly interested in the development
of the science of agriculture in this part of the country and is doing
capable and farsighted work along this line as president of the Farmers
Development Association of Minnehaha county, secretary of the Minnehaha
County Farmers Institute and Stock Growers Association, and chairman of
the Farmers Institute Board of Sioux Falls, which is a department of
the Commercial Club.

On the 28th of May, 1902, Mr. Thompson was married to Miss Thora
Nyhus, and they have four children, namely: Alma, Clara, Mildred and
Richard.

Mr. Thompson gives his political allegiance to the republican
party and while at all times he takes an active interest in public
affairs, he has never been a politician in the usually accepted sense
of the term. He is never neglectful of the duties of citizenship and
his influence has been a tangible force for good in the community.

Thorston and Thora had 6 children:

Alma Thelma, born in 1903, married Joe Thompson in 1927.They had three children, a boy who died in infancy, Jean, who died at age two, and Jo Ann, who married Herb Nelson in 1957. Joann was a librarian and taught for 10 years at Oldham School. Her hobbies included reading and sewing. She died in 1970.

Clara Pauline, born in 1905, married Erling Haugo in 1926. Erling was in the banking business, having chartered the Valley National Bank in Sioux Falls, as well as banking interests in Yankton, Elk Point, and Lennox, South Dakota. They had two children, Roger, Erling, who married Sandra Warne in 1973, and practiced law in Sioux Falls, and Houston Pierre, a banker in Sioux falls. Houston married Judy Macy in 1966 and they have two children, Christian, and Allison Elizabeth.

Ruth Irene died at 12 weeks.

Mildred Genevieve, born in 1911, married Wayne Frend in 1932. Mildred taught school for several years and Wayne farmed. They sold the farm buildings and 12 acres in 1973 and rented out the land. They renovated an old house, and purchased a cotage on Lake Lida, near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They live in Harrisburg South Dakota. Their son, Ross married Joy Dreyer in 1960, Ross and Joy have three children, Sandra, born in 1968, Diana, born in 1971, and DeWayne, born in 1972. They live in Brookings, SD.

Richard T. married Isobel in 1938, and they lived in Sioux falls with various addresses and occupations through the years, except for a 7-year period on a farm near Spencer, SD. Richard is a Highway Technician for the SD Dept of Highways. His hobbies include camping, 4-H, Boy Scouts, and gardening. Isobel is Personnel Assistant at the VA Center. Richard and Isobel have six children. Julie K, Gerald E., and J. Mark were still living at home at the time of this writing. Richard T Jr married Loretta in 1961. Hello Margit

Thanks again :D
This must be Thorstons family, he was a young man on the picture.
And the others must be his parents and his siblings.
