Rebecca's daughter:

February 9, 2005

Jeanie Aurora (Anderson) Chaney

Jeanie Aurora (Anderson) Chaney, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at the local hospital.
She was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Monitor. She graduated from Mt. Angel College in 1941, and has remained a firm friend and supporter of the Benedictine Sisters all of her life. She worked in her early years as a high school English teacher in Scappoose and Silverton, and in the drafting records department at the Swan Island shipyards in Portland during World War II, then the Dalles Chronicle.
While working for the Chronicle, she took photographs of Celilo Falls with some of Kodak’s first color film. These photographs were printed and sold in the Dalles, and can be seen on display at the Celilo Center, Veterans Home, and the Art Box.
Following World War II, she made an extraordinary trip to Norway, followed by lectures and slide presentations in The Dalles upon her return.
She met her husband, Davis Chaney, while working at the local newspaper in Coos Bay. The family later moved to Monroe, Wash., where she worked for many years as a volunteer at Valley General Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Croft, son-in-law Jerry Croft, and grandchildren Krista, Michael and Becca; a sister Dorothy (Vernon) Tenneson; sister-in-law Zelpha Anderson; and eleven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Davis, her brother Bob Anderson, and her parents Emil and Rebecca (Ramberg) Anderson.
A funeral service will be held at Libby, Spencer and Powell on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m with Pastor Dorothy Nielsen of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
Memorials may be sent to Celilo Center, 1800 E. 19th St., The Dalles, OR 97058, Mid-Columbia Medical Center at 1700 E. 19th St., The Dalles, OR 97058, or Benedictine Sisters Foundation of Oregon, PO Box 912, Mt. Angel, OR 97362-0912 503-845-2556, or benfoundation@mtangel.net. Interment will follow in April at Miller Cemetery in Silverton.

The other daughter, Dorothy:

Dorothy “Dot” Eleanor Tenneson

Dorothy "Dot" Eleanor Tenneson, 88, a resident of The Dalles, passed away at a local care facility on Monday, October 22, 2007.

She was born in Monitor, Oregon on December 4, 1918 to Norwegian immigrants Emil and Rebecca (Ramberg) Anderson. After high school she graduated from Mt. Angel Benedictine College, majored in Arts and Humanities, and was an English teacher.

During World War II she was a draftsman at the Portland Shipyards where she met Navy Lt. Vernon B. Tenneson. They enjoyed city league softball and were duplicate bridge players. Vern and Dot were married in May 1946, in Vancouver, British Columbia. They moved to Wasco County when Vern became an REA engineer, surveying for power lines which would bring the first electricity to rural and remote Northern Oregon farms and towns.

Dot enjoyed the Arts and her talents included writing poetry, painting, photography and piano. She explored Europe, Central America, China and Russia, and treasured her reunions with cousins in Norway. Dot was an AFS and IFYE Mom to students from Norway, Finland, Denmark and France.

Dot and Vern raised their children and cherries on the family farm in Mill Creek Valley. She is survived by two sons, Scott and his wife Jewel, Bill and his wife Joni; two daughters, Jamie Crouse and her husband Dan of The Dalles, Ann Elisa Ware and her husband Mike of Sedro Woolley; her cherished grandchildren, Hailey and Andrew Tenneson and Ben and Ted Ware, Stephanie Kopseng and Jeff Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Bob and one sister, Jeanie.

The family is especially thankful to the Mill Creek Point Assisted Living staff for their loving kindness in caring for Dot while she resided there.

Funeral service will be held October 27, 2007, at 1pm at Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles, with Pastor John Finstuen officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, Zion Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
