fordi jeg ikke vet særlig mye om emigrasjon til USA og det faktum at jeg har fått et spørsmål på mail angående dette, ønsker jeg å få hjelp til å besvare dette. Jeg legger ut spørsmålet her:
"Now a question about immigration. As you know, most Norwegian emigrants to the US from Norway, went to our upper midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc.). It seems that with a growing population and smaller farms due to constant subdividing, many had to make a decision if they wanted to continue farming. So they took advantage of the US Homestead Act. But the question remains-why did so many settle in Brooklyn. They were not farmers. My relatives were seamen (captains, mates, etc.) Brooklyn had for many years a large Scandinavian population (with many different skills) with their own newspaper( Nordiske Tidende). Each year they celebrated Leif Ericsen day. So do you know why they came to Brooklyn?"
Håper noen vil hjelpe meg med å besvare spørsmålet.
