Jack Stroh, 93, James-town, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in James-town.
Mr. Stroh was born on Oct. 19, 1914 near McClusky, N.D., the son of Peter and Katrena (Derheim) Stroh. He moved to Jamestown in 1919 and attended James-town Public Schools. He then worked as a truck driver and baker at Flannery Bakery. He married Margaret Wehler on Feb. 15, 1941. He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942 during World War II and spent three years in Italy. He returned home in 1945. He worked as a Veterans Service Officer for one year. He started a Bus and Cab Company in partnership with his brother-in-law Johnny Wehler. He owned and operated Rollerrena Roller Skating with his brother-in-law Norris Torkelson for about 10 years. He later worked at the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown, in admissions for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of Jamestown Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. His hobbies were fixing small engines, gardening, hunting, fishing and skating.
