Familien Krogh i Minnesota

Legg inn av 20978 » 01 des 2008 20:49:18

Hei,

Jeg har fått god hjelp med denne familien, men mangler noen data på enkelte av familiemedlemmene. Håper noen kan hjelpe meg med det.

1. Engebret C. Krogh f. 1821 og hans kone, Beret (Bertha) Eriksdatter Krogh f. 1821. Begge f. i
Sør-Fron, Norge. De emigrerte til Wilkin, Minnesota 02.07.1880. Er begge registrert i 1885 i
Rothsay, Wilkin. Engebret er reg. samme sted i 1895, men bor alene. Regner med at Bertha
er død da.
Spørsmålet er: Når døde Bertha? Må vel være mellom 1885 og 1895 kanskje. Når døde
Engebret?

2. Johan (John) Krogh f. 16.01.1880 i Wilkin, Minnesota. Hans foreldre var: Gina og Engebret
Krogh. John er reg. i Burke, North Dakota i 1917/1918 (World War I Draft Registration
Cards).
Spørsmålet er: Når og hvor døde John?

3. Ingvald (Engvald) Krogh f. okt. 1881 i Wilkin. Samme foreldre som John. Jeg vet ikke noe
mer om ham.
Spørsmålet er: Skulle gjerne visst fødselsdato, om han var gift og hadde barn og når han
døde?

4. Bergette Krogh f. mai 1889 i Wilkin. Samme foreldre som John. Jeg vet ikke noe mer om
henne.
Spørsmål: Fødselsdato? Gift? Barn? Når død?

5. Otto Krogh f. aug. 1891 i Wilkin med samme foreldre som John.
Spørsmål: Fødselsdato?

6. Nille (Nellie) Krogh f. nov.

Kjersti Elgaaen

Hei Kjersti!
I am trying to find some answers for you...I think the last name "Krogh" may be misspelled in some of the census years...because so far I only find George, Nellie and Theodore Krogh (all siblings) living in Wilkin county, Tanberg, MN in the 1920 cenus. Rothsay is a town in the township of Tanberg, Wilkin county.
In the 1920 census, Nellie is age 26...so that is close to "your" Nellis...I don't know who George (age 32) and Theodore (age 24) could be...
Perhaps someone else might find some more answers than I could...but I'll take another look...

Hi Patty!

First of all - thank you so much for your efforts! :D

I am not familiar with Rothsay and Tanberg. Thought that Tanberg was the township and Rothsay was the town. Thank you for telling me that the opposite is correct.

If there are some misspelling of "Krogh", maybe you can try "Kragh" or "Krog"?

George and Theodor are Nellies brothers. Theodor even lived with Nellie and her husband Haust in Portland, Washington in 1930.

It would have been really nice to fill "the black spots" in my writings about the family Krogh.
So thank you for trying to fill them for me! Please, don't give in!

Kind regards
Kjersti

Hi again Patty!

I have been thinking about what you wrote. Some of the persons I am surching might be dead in 1920 or moved from Rothsay and even Minnesota. I know that their father died in 1895 and their mother, Gina, died in 1919. After their mothers death the "children" who were living with her at that time, moved elsewhere.

Do you have any possibilities to go into some Death Indexes in other states than Minnesota, for instance North Dakota, Washington, Origon or other states?

Best regards
Kjersti

Hei igjen!
Have you seen the 1900 census record for theKrogh family?...I looked again...once you mentioned Gina Krogh as their mother....found her and her children living in Wilkin county...and it is the township of Tanberg...did I confuse you about that in my last entry? Actually, Rothsay is never mentioned in the census records...but I found it on a map in the township of Tanberg.
In the 1900 census, it says Gina was born Feb. 1854 and immigrated 1878. Her 10 children are living with her.
I also found Gina in the 1910 census in Tanberg, with a few less "children"...!

I do not have Ancestry at home but use a program (Heritage Quest) with my local library subscription. So I am sorry I can not search as well as those with Ancestry...
Heritage Quest does not have all the "special ways" of searching the census records, and those other indexes compared to Ancestry.

I'll look again at your questions and see if I can help any more.
mvh Patty

Hei Patty!

Thanks for your interest in trying to help me! It is not easy when you have limits in coming into different databasis. I understand that you have tried to help me, and that is the most important matter in the first run. If you continue surching you might probably succeed!

Have a nice day!

Hi Margit!

I have just coming home and suprisingly I discovered your informasion that fills some of my "black spots". Hurra! Thanks you so much!

It seems that the persons that you found, have moved from Wilkin County to Otter Tail County at the end of their lives or they have been buried in Otter Tail for some reasons. Have you any opinions about that matter?

Concerning my question about John Krogh. He lived in Burke, North Dakota and worked as a stock buyer. He had an independent practice. He might have died there. Have you any opportunity to surch for him in that state?

And Nellie Krogh and her husband were living in Portland, Washington. I suppose they died there.

I would have appreciated very much if you can help me "filling more up"!

Kind regards
Kjersti

Hei igjen Kjersti!
I also wondered whether you had this info...Is Emil Krogh the oldest child of Gina? I can't read the oldest child's name in that census. If so, he is living in Ottertail county, Fergus Falls, Mn in 1920, age 42. He immigrated 1879 (and I know the 1900 census said that the oldest child, was born in Norway)...so this immigration year made me think he IS Gina's child?
He is married to Laura age 33 and there is a nephew, Clayton Salness age 4 living with them.

Hei igjen Kjersti!
I also found Theodore Krogh in the SSDI, born April 1896 and died Nov. 1893 in Portland, OR. I did not find any one with the last name Hockenjos, who died in Oregon...but that does not mean there is not some other record of their deaths...

Hei igjen Patty!

That is perfectly right. Emil was the oldest child of Gina and Christian. He was born in Norway 12.07.1877. Gina, Christian and Emil emigrated to Minnesota. They left Oslo 02.08.1878. Emil was at that time only 1 year old. After they settled in Wilkin, Gina got 9 more children.
Emil and Laura were living in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County the rest of their lives.I do not think they got any children. Laura died in Fergus Falls 20.11.1969 at the age of 83, and Emil 18.02.1971 at the age of 93.

Thank you for your info!

Hei,

Thanks for your input.

This has really been a case to try to solve. I do not know Engebret and Bertha Barlund. I have been working for hours now to find out who they are. I think I have found out who they can be, but I do not know if this is correct. I do not think they belong to my family from the farm Barlund in Sør-Fron.
Originally Engebret Mortensen Bakke was running a farm called: Bakke nordre (gnr. 71, bnr.4) in Sør-Fron. I can see that in the Census in 1865 and 1875. He had 8 children. Bertha was the youngest daughter. Engebret sold the farm in 1875 with a contract that gave him the right to live at the farm. Where they actually lived between 1875 and 1894, I do not know. They might have been living on the farm Barlund for a certain time and of that reason have taken that name as a surname. Why did they not take Bakke as a surname? I don't know! :?

Nevertheless, thank you both for your effort. :D

Referring to John Krogh - I am not sure, but I think that I have found a John C Krogh born 1881 married to Clara and recident in Burke, North Dakota in 1930. That might be "my" John Krogh. I would be happy to get feedback on that if it is possible. :D

Hei Margit!

Now I have tried to get all your information into a certain system. There are of course questions connected to this.

I hope that you will not be too much bothered with these questions:

- When got John married to Clara Helene and where?
- Who was Clara? Was she born in North Dakota or another place? Was her parents of
Norwegian origin?
- There are so many names, and I do not know how many children Clara and John got, their
names (except John i Seattle and Robert Dale) and when they were born.

From the oversight of persons who are burried in Burke, it seems that they probably got at
least 3 children who are dead in Burke (Crystal Jordis, Jonathan C and Virgil Leland) + Robert
Dale (the third child) and John in Seattle (still alive). Do you think this is right?

Maybe you should call him on the telephone or write him a letter:
You have lots of tips in the obituary, you can check the whitepages for names?

Subject: Krogh family

Margit,

I recently came across information and discussion you have been having with Kjersti Elgaaen on the DIS-Norge web site. My wifes family name is Krogh. The Krogh that you have been discussing is Christian Engebretsen Krogh, son of Engebret Christiansen. He was married to Jorgina Johannesdatter Barlund.

I am writing you instead of Kjersti because I neither read or speak Norweagian. I am hoping that you can put us in direct contact with each other and help with some translation when necessary. I would be interested in any information that she may have on the family before they left Norway. I have quite alot of information that I found in the Digital Archives and Parish registers. I am looking for what ships they came across on. I think they must have come through Canada as they do not appear in the Castle Garden or other US lists.

My wifes ggrandfather was Ole Krogh, brother to Christian. He too came to the USA following Christian in 1879. Engebret immigrated in 1880. I have also found that the family's first stop was Wilkin County and later Rothsay, Minn. where both Engebret and Christian died.

Ole struck out on his own and homesteaded land in Souris, Bottineau County, North Dakota. He and his wife had 8 children. Ole left the family sometime after 1910 and moved to Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, Canada where he took out a homestead. He died there in 1926 and is buried in Twin Valley Cemetery near Willow Bunch.

My wifes grandfather was Edwin Krogh, the fourth child born to Ole and his wife. Edwin grew up in North Dakota and as an adult he was a farmer. He moved to the Dickenson and Manning, North Dakota area where he met and married his wife Lucille Watkins and proceeded to have 14 children. They lived in Emerson, North Dakota which no longer exists. There are still Watkins in that area. In 1935 the family moved to Spokane, Washington.

I would appreciate any help that you might be able to give us in making the contact with Kjersti. I appologize for making this contact outside the DIS-Norg web blog but I was unsure how my message would appear or be understood.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Hei Kristine!

Hilsen Kjersti

Hei!
Sorry about my entry regarding Theodore Krogh!
I got the numbers on his date of death mixed up!...yes, it was meant to be 1983...not 1893!

Hei Patty!

Don't worry about that! It is so easy to mix in the eagerness to help. Anyway, it is nice that other people shows interest and tries to help.

Merry Christmas, Patty! :D
