Men - folketellingen 1900 hadde vært fin uansett, for å se foreldre osv.

Re: Erling Eide f 21 Jul 1889
Johan Eide born 14. Dec 1887, but the John Eide that Margit has found, can still be the right one.

I'm not related, but my youngest son is named Erling Eide, but he has the surname Sivertsen.

The 1900 cencus is already linked above. I'll make a timeline that I know from address books in Trondheim on the two brothers.
Source: Trondheim Adressebøker 1888-1925:
http://trhweb.trondheim.folkebibl.no/db ... index.html
1902-1905: Only father Henrik, brother Andreas and sister Ingeborg mentioned.
1906 : Johan first mentioned as being an apprentice blacksmith
1907 : Johan mentioned as a sailor, and Erling as a carpenter.
1908-1909: Johan still a sailor, and Erling a carpenter, but also mentioned as apprentice blacksmith
1911-1912 : Johan works as a a boat engineer
1913 : There is a Johan Eide in a different address, occupation boat engineer. Erling is a blacksmith.
1916 : There is a Johan Eide engineer in Øvre Møllenberggt 22. Erling listed as an apprentice blacksmith.
1917 : Erling a blacksmith. Johan is not listed. There is another Johan Eide there with nautical occupation, but he lived in the same place also in 1916 when what I believe to be my Johan Eide lived in Øvre Møllenberggt 22.
Will continue further through the years later. But I did find something in the emigration records:
In 1920 a shipbuilder John Eide was returning to USA. He had arrived in 1919 to Norway as a US citizen, born 1890. Married.
Link: http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... erk=171519
Maybe it is possible to trace this travel and find out where he lived in USA, and then possibly try to track down a marriage certificate, where his parents name should be.
Many thanks for the help so far.
Petter
