REGINA KAROLINA LIEN was born in Norway December 23, 1885. REGINA died September 27, 1968 in Everett, Washington, at 82 years of age. Her body was interred in Minot, North Dakota, Rosehill Cemetery.
She married twice. She married HENRY EDWARD SCHUSTER in South Dakota, CA 1907. HENRY died May 1912 in Minnesota.
Not much is known of good old Henry Schuster. Just getting his name proved to be a real ordeal. But his daughter, Ruth, finally came through. I believe that he died in Moorhead, Minnesota, where Ruth was born, living Regina a widow with four daughters.
She married ALBERT O. BURAN in Minot, North Dakota, March 25, 1919. ALBERT was born in Norway October 29, 1882. ALBERT died November 1966 in Minot, North Dakota. His body was interred in Minot, North Dakota, Rosehill Cemetery.
Albert was listed in the 1917, 1922, and 1925 Ward County Farmer's Directory, as farming and owning land in Linton and Makoti, ND.
The Minot Daily News has a note about Albert's funeral service. It follows here:
"Pallbearers for the funeral of Albert O. Buran, 84, Minot, who died Sunday in a Minot hospital, will be Arthur Bjordahl, Frank Rubbeike, Gust Evanchenko, Paul Peteson, Glenn Hargrave and Odd Osteroos. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 in the chapel of Thompson-Larson Funeral Home. Reverand Marvin D. Odland will officiate and burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park. Reviewal will be today and Wednesday until the time of service."
ALBERT'S OBITUARY FROM THE MINOT PAPER, NOV. 28, 1966
"The funeral for Albert O. Buran, 84, 718-5th St. SW, who died Sunday in a Minot hospital, will be Wednesday at 2 in the chapel of Thompson-Larson Funeral Home. Rev. Marvin D. Odlan will officiate and burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park. Reviewal will be Tuesday and Wednesday until the time of service.
Mr. Buran was born at Skogen-Markabygd, Norway, Oct. 29, 1882, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ole Buran. He was reared in Norway and came to the US and Makoti. He homesteaded in Makoti in 1906, farmed there until 1961, then moved to Minot. Mr. Buran was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, and attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Surviving are his wife, Regina Lien, to whom he was married in 1919 in Minot; four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Myler, Minot, Mrs. Sally Meraeildo, Reno, Nev., Mrs. Sigurd (Ruth) Walberg, Sedro-Woolley, Wash., and Mrs. Arthur (Olga) Olson, Marysville, Wash.: one son, Alvin of Grand Forks; 15 grand-children; and seven great-grandchildren."
According to the 1915 South Dakota Census, Regina was born in Sweden. The 1905 census also lists her as being born in Sweden. Her daughter, Ruth, however told me that she was born in Lillenhammer, Norway, where the 1994 Olympic games were held.
Her obituary states that she came to the United States in 1903 when she was 18 years old. The South Dakota Census of 1905 has her living in Burton, Marshall County, South Dakota as a domestic at the age of 21. This would be pretty accurate, since her birth date is 1885.
Ten years later, she is listed in the SD Census as married with a last name of Schuster, with four daughters, but no card or record is mentioned of her husband. I have been told by her daughter Ruth that he died in Minnesota about three weeks after her own birth in May, 1912, so Regina was a widow with four daughters by 1915. This census also listed her as married for seven years; that is where I get the date of her first marriage from.
After returning from Minnesota and giving birth to her fourth daughter, Ruth, she was listed as living in Hammar Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. Hammar is just east of Kidder, SD, across the county line, so she moved back to the area where her parents lived.
Regina married Albert Buran in 1919 in Minot, North Dakota. How they met, I do not know. Their application for marriage, # 15-236, states that she was from Hillhead, Marshall County, South Dakota and he was from Makoti, Ward County, North Dakota. She had more children with Albert. Albert and Regina farmed in Makoti, North Dakota until 1961, when he retired and they moved to Minot. When Albert died in 1966, she went to live in Washington with her daughter, Ruth.

OLGA BURAN was born November 6, 1919. OLGA died September 3, 1993 in Washington, at 73 years of age.
She married ARTHUR OLSON.
She resided in Marysville, Washington.
Olga passed out behind the wheel of her car on the way to the dentist's office. According to her sister, she was ill, and shouldn't have been driving at all.
OLGA BURAN and ARTHUR OLSON had the following children:
i. DONALD ARTHUR.
ii. RICHARD JOHN

IONE BURAN was born November 26, 1924. IONE died 1963.
She married CECIL HOLMES.
Ione's birthday could be in July instead of November. I met the woman several times, but I can't say I remember her. I was only three when she died. I remember her husband better, and their four children. I remember we used to go and visit them. My grandmother, Minnie, Ione's sister, went to live with Cecil after her death and take care of the children for years in first Stanley and later in Minot. It seems that the family tradition of taking and raising each other's children continued with Minnie (Helena). Her own sisters, Edith and Ruth, raised her children. Her parents raised her sister Edith's son, Alvin. Now she raises her sister Ione's children.
Cecil died circa 1985 in Minot, North Dakota.
IONE BURAN and CECIL HOLMES had the following children:
i. CHERRY I believe Cherry is married and has several children, but I have no idea where.
ii. CHARLENE I believe that Charlene is married also with children. Anybody have any information out there?
iii. SHERMAN Sherman, too, is married with children, and I believe he lives in Minot somewhere.
iv. STEWART I believe that Stewart still lives in Minot
