Shirley Margaret and Effie Doris Krogh

Legg inn av 5078 » 16 des 2007 22:40:08

My grandmother's brother Oliver Krogh married Sarah Charlotte Knudsen in Spokane 22 DEC 1908.

They got five children:

1. John Clifford born 7 NOV 1909 - 22 FEB 1948. Divorced, and no children, I suppose.
2. Oliver Ronald born 4 JAN 1912 - 01 OCT 1913
3. Oliver Junior born 6 JAN 1914, died young
4. Shirley Margaret born 28 MAR 1916
5. Effie Doris born 11 JAN 1919

Oliver was called Ole Johnsen Krogene in Norway, bu he changed name when he came to Norway. He was my grandmother's brother. He was born in Oppdal in Norway 10 Nov 1879 and emigrated in 1900. He visited his home in Norway in 1903 and 1923. He died 6 DEC 1956. Sarah Charlotte was born 19 JUN 1885 and died 21 DEC 1970.

I want to know if Shirley Margaret and Effie Doris had children?

Best regards,

Knut Krokann

Thank you!

I'm not familar with these obituaries and I'm not sure how I can find them.

Sarah Charlott and Oliver died in LA and I suppose there are several newspapers which will be actual.

Can anybody tell me what should my next step?

Hokans, Carl A. Sr. and Doris

Published: January 13, 2001
Hokans, Carl A. Sr. and Doris Carl A. Hokans, Sr., age 83, formerly of Glendale, passed away at his daughter's home on the morning of Saturday, January 6, 2001. His wife, Doris, age 81, passed away 14 hours later in the early morning of Sunday, January 7, 2001 at the Oconto Falls Hospital. Both had been ill for some time. They were together in marriage for fifty eight years and are now together for eternity. Carl was born in Massilon, Ohio, on April 10, 1917. He was the son of Eric and Sophie (Hanson) Hokans. He grew up in Holly, Michigan and studied engineering at the University of Michigan before enlisting in the Air Force, where he served as a captain from 1941 to 1945. He had a distinguished career serving as a B-17 navigator, twice receiving both the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. After an honorable discharge, he went to work for General Motors in the Engineering Department and Proving Grounds in Detroit, Michigan. He was with General Motors from 1945 to 1952, and received a patent on an agricultural light during that time. In 1953, he had the vision to start a business in what he saw as an emerging market, the position of manufacturer's agent. With a natural gift for communication, he became a seller for hire and founded C.A. Hokans, Incorporated, which is still operating under the guidance of his son, Carl Hokans, Jr. One of his greatest joys was spending time around his backyard pool on a Sunday afternoon with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed being a member of the Tripoli Country Club, where he golfed regularly with his closest friends. Carl was a member of the 303rd Bomb Group Association and attended many reunions throughout the years. Doris was born in Spokane, Washington on January 11, 1919, the daughter of Oliver and Charlotte (Knudsen) Krogh. She grew up in Washington and graduated from the University of Idaho, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married Carl on November 24, 1942 in Casper, Wyoming. She and Carl worked together starting C.A. Hokans, Inc. and she did all the accounting for the business. Family was most important to her and she spent much of her time and energy making them happy. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, shop and travel. Carl and Doris, known as Dodey and Hoke to their family and friends, enjoyed traveling on cruise ships, as well as cross-country train and car trips to visit family in California and Michigan. Through the years, they derived many hours of pleasure from their three dogs: Skipper, Trubby and Toby and their cat, Bailey. When Dodey and Hoke became ill, they moved to the Lakewood area where their daughter, Erica, could help take care of them. Both Dodey and Hoke will be sadly missed by their family and all who knew them. Carl and Doris are survived by their children, Erica (Russell) Billings of Lakewood, WI and Carl (Janie) Hokans, Jr. of Port Washington, WI; grandchildren, Theresa (Kevin) Brice of Cedarburg, WI, Richard White of Madison, WI, Elizabeth (Jeff) Weyker of Saukville, WI, Kimberlee Billings of Lakewood, WI, Lisa Hokans of New York, NY and Molly Hokans of DePere, WI; great-grandchildren, Lianna, Calvin and Faith Brice and Carly Hokans. They are survived by numerous other family and friends. Both were preceded in death by their parents. Private funeral services will take place in the spring when the weather will allow for burial. Suminski Funeral Home of Wabeno, 715-473-3131 will be handling the services.
