Could anyone help me with this problem: Margaret Ida Larson was a daugther of my grandads sister Mary Larson, imigrant to Isle, Mille Lacs, Minnesota and husband Georg Larson. I should like to find out when Margaret was born. I have some info that tell she was born in Isle, Mille Lacs 11 Nov 1920 and another - that she was born 30 Jan 1920.
What's the rigth date of birth?
Her father Georg "Geo" Larson was born 15 Oct 1882 in Artichoke, Big Stone, Minnesota. His parents was Jens Larson and Annie Larson. Do anyone know more about his parents and family?

Hei Roger,
In the 1920 census they were living in Morrison County of Minnesota. Therefore this should be the birth of Margaret I believe, but you did not say what the maiden name of her mother Mary was? In the 1920 census there is a Ragnhild Nelson living with them age 68. . . her mother it says.

Re: Larson's in Isle Minnesota
Hello Margit and thank you!
You have the right family and I am sure Margarets birth has to be 01/30/1920. Her body was donated to the Minnesota university for medical studies, and in their paper is written this date.
Mary's maiden name was Marie Nilsdatter Nakken, from Fiksdal, More og Romsdal, Norway. In US she changed her name to Mary. Her mother Ragnhild (Nelson) followed, in an age of 55, in 1911. Her maiden name was Ragnhild Johnsdatter Randen (from Vågå, Gudbrandsdal) and after she married Nils Andersen Nakken in Fiksdal - Ragnhild Johnsdatter Nakken. BUT - in US she used her daughters maidenname in a US-version - Nelson.
Ragnhild left her husband and two sons in Norway. She had problems with her motherinlaw on the farm. She never married again and they were never divorced. Her husband Nils died in Fiksdal, Norway - and Ragnhild in Isle.
In july this year I visited her grave - as the first one from the family in Norway - she is my great granmother.
The reason they ended up in Minnesota was because Ragnhild had a halfsister living there, Mary Boe (Bø), from Vågå also. So - when Marie left Fiksdal in may 1909 she went to her aunt Mary Boe in Appelton, Swift county.
Mary(Marie) Nilsdatter Nakken married Georg Larson 11/13/1909 in Ortonwille, Big Stone county.
I do not know more about Georgs family, do you think it is possible to find anything?
Roger

Re: Larson's in Isle Minnesota
Hei Roger,
I find George, his brother Louis and brother Helmer living with the Johnson's in the 1895 census in Minnesota. I presumed their parents were deceased, so I checked for the parents burials and have found them I believe. The cemetery is located in Swift County of Minnesota. It looks like brother Helmer died before George married as he is buried there also.

I would suggest that you ask members of George's family if you are in contact with them about Louis and his family. I do not find them now in the 1930 census. Perhaps one of them may be able to tell you more about Jens and Anna.

Is'nt it fantastic?!! You have done a great job, Margit. I will look over all this and maybe I can add something. You are right about George's first name - he was born as Jorgen!

Re: Larson's in Isle Minnesota
Hello again -
because you could give me their date of birth I searched the 1865 Census in Norway and the only place I found a match was up in the north, in Balsfjord, Troms. And when I searched the churchbook I found the confirmation of
Jens Andreas Larsen, born 08/24/1846, son of Lars Martin Bertheusen Hestenæs and Kristianne (Christiane) Andreasdatter.
And when I search I noticed the confirmation of a girl called Ane Helmine Hansdatter Sandbukt, born 08/17/1845, daugther of Hans Davidsen Sandbukt and Magdalene Michaelsdatter.
Could this be George's parents? We know they got a son called Helmer and also Georg and Mary did.
Then I searched the churchbook for immigrants (Utflyttet) and in 1874 I found that 08/03/1874 Jens Andr. Larsen Hestenæs and 08/04/1874 Ane Helmine Hansdtr Sandbukt left Balsfjord and went to Tromsø.
And then I searched the immigrant list from Norway and I found them leaving Trondheim as a couple 09/03/1874

Re: Larson's in Isle Minnesota
I have searched churchbooks in Balsfjord and Tromsø and Trondheim, but I cannot find Jens Andreas Larsen (Hestenæs) and Ane Helmine Hansdatter (Sandbukt) married in Norway. Above you can see (the link) their emigration to St. Cloud, Minn., US in sep 1874.
I think they married in Minnesota. Can their marriage be found over there?
The problem is that the emigrationlist in Norway says she travel as "Kone = wife".
