Re: Nordlund - Minnesota/North Dakota/Illinois
Donna on the Illinois (IL-CHICAGO-NORWEGIANS) list found the obituaries. RD who is on the list is going to check some more also.
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/E ... GIANS.html
is where you can join the list, it is not very active, but has good searchers on the list for the Chicago/Illinois area.

Re: Nordlund - Minnesota/North Dakota/Illinois
I am sending what RD found last night, he said you can contact him if you wish at email address below, per his instructions.
I will check some more later also, but busy with genealogists from Washington state staying here now in Minnesota a few days.
Margit in Minnesota
Margit,
I would recommend the following to Øystein Bærø:
1) Write Graceland Cemetery & Crematorium
4001 N Clark Stret, Chicago IL, 60613
773-525-1105 FAX: 773-525-9091
(Diane Lanigan, Records clerk at the cemetery, did my
research) Graceland mailed me the information in about
1 week and requested payment within 10 days.
Request a search for persons KNOWN interred there:
NORDLUND (Alma, Frank, John, Eleanor); EINESS (Helmer,
Thyra)
NOTE: Thyra's first husband, YOUNGSBERG may also be
buried there, or anywhere else.
Request a search for persons UNKNOWN to be interred
there: LUNDGREEN (Edla); NORDLUND (Roy)
(Figure out how to pay in US Dollars. Maybe a member
of this list will "front the cash" in return for
research services in Norway of equal value.)
2) Does he want to get $5 photocopies of any of thge
pre-1950 death certificates from
ChicagoGenealogy.com?(Cynthia will send scanned images
as well as photocopies of the certificates, but ONLY
after she receives payment - which can be done by
credit card through her website.)
3) Or does he want to order $15 "Genealogy only"
copies of any death certificate through the Cook
County Clerk's website, or the State of Illinois?
I will look for Chicago Death Indexes for the missing
NORDLUND not found by SSDI, but I suspect they may
have lived in a different state.
Also, some of Thyra Einess's kin may still live in
Tinley Park in southwest Cook county.
From http://www.ussearch.com/...
This is TOO close not to be a descendant?
THYRA EINESS 96 TINLEY PARK IL
(It might be worth the risk to buy whatever obsolete
information USSearch may have for her.)
Also several LUNDGREEN in Chicago, suburbs, and
various Illinois towns.
No NORDLUND except Arvid who does not appear related.
Unfortunately, Thyra Einess does NOT have a
telephone/address on-line, so either unpublished or
she lives with someone else or in a nursing home.

Margit, are you aware of this information?
Another Margit (mbakke@eot.com) posted this info in
both MINNESOTA-L Archives and TRONDELAG-L Archives
--some page Minnesota Index WWI Book that your
Norwegian client may like?
Einess, Helmer, Fosston . 101 ** Thyra’s [second]
husband
Einess, Elias, Fosston . . . 143
Einess, Ludwig, Fosston. .. 143 ** Helmer’s brother
(who died in Chicago - Chicago obit found)
----
1930 Census may list Helmer's children that do not
appear in Obituaries? But that is a task for another
day.
Yawn, another 30 minutes research (on top of the 3.5
hours already expended tonight).
Ralph from Chicago
If Øystein Bærø wishes to contact me directly, he can
use find_il_norwegians@yahoo.com (with NORDLUND in the
subject line) rather than find_kin@yahoo.com which is
being overrun by SPAM. We will keep you in the loop,
but not the rest of the list.

ROY NORDLUND 13 Jan 1908 Dec 1960 (not specified)

NOTE: Where he died is NOT specified (Illinois refers
to where his SSN was issued), so it may not have been
in Illinois.
No Thyra Youngsberg found in SSDI but based on John
Nordlund’s obit (below), she had a second husband?
THYRA A EINESS %22 Aug 1910%24 Dec 1994%60477 (Tinley

No John/Johan NORDLUND found in SSDI (born 1906)
No Edla LUNDGREEN found in SSDI

----- Commentary ------
1) None of the obituaries I found list children. So
these couples MUST have died childless (or their
children pre-deceased them). So which of the
offspring whose obituaries I did not find had the 3
grandchildren listed in Alma's obituary?
2) All the burials are at Graceland on N. Clark Street
in Chicago. I am assuming that maybe some of the
other children are also buried in Graceland too, and
possibly in a "family plot".
*** For about $10 Graceland cemetery provided me with
photocopies of burial records, including headstone
details, and search for similar names. ***

Re: Nordlund - Minnesota/North Dakota/Illinois
Thanks a lot using your time to find my family! I am very grateful. I hope I can help you with something.
Is it possible that the surname Youngsberg is another way to write the Swedish surname Ljungberg? I can find several Ljungberg in the Illinois Statewide Death Index.
Where can I find information of Frank Nordlunds origin? I don´t know where he came from or his date of birth. The surname indicates that he can be of Norwegian, Swedish or even Finnish origin. I can find some guys with the name Frans Nordlund on Ellis Island, but maybe he changed his name after coming to the US? Maybe he is born there?
Alma Strutz Nordlund´s aunt (her mother´s sister) was also living in Grand Forks, North Dakota, her name was Emilie, born Arnesdatter, in Grue, Norway about 1840-50. She was married to Sigvart Larsen Orbak (Ørbæk), and from some old letters i can see that they was running a hotel in Grand Forks "Hotel Christiania". I guess from the information in the letters that she maybe died about 1920 or a bit later. I have an old picture of their summer house. I don´t think they had any children.
If there is some available information, I will be very grateful, but it is no hurry.
