Hr.

Hei!
I hope this helps some???
I found an article about a Dr. (doctor) Brandt who treated the Norwegian Ole Rynning, when he was dying from malaria and typhoid fever in Illinois.
Ole was b. April 4, 1809 in Ringsaker Norway
F. Jens Rynning, M Severine Catharine Steen
Ole was working on building the Illinois Canal...the conditions for the workers were not healthy and he got very sick (syk).
Ole died Sept 1838..he was buried in an unmarked grave on the prairie in Illinois
Dr. Brandt published an article in the Morgenbladet Sept 18, 1841
(this is just some of what I get from this link)
https://archive.org/stream/olerynningst ... n_djvu.txt
Perhaps you can find more about Dr. Brandt??...I think he lived at the Beaver Creek Colony,
where Ole lived. (Iroquois county, Illinois)
One more link about Ole Rynning
http://norwegianridge.com/2012/04/21/ol ... rica-1838/

Re: Hr. Brandt reiste fra Hamburg 18. mai 1840
Takk for gode innspill. Men Blegen skriver i forordet til den engelske versjonen av Amerikaboka (True account ...): "The physician who visited the Norwegian
settlements in 1840 was a Dr. Brandt. He ascribed Rynning's death to
malaria followed by typhoid Fever."
Jeg har ikke funnet ut når og hvor han døde.
Patty: Do you read Norwegian?

Hei Arnt-Erik
My Norwegian is not perfect...but I usually "get the point".
So Dr. Brandt did not treat Ole Rynning...but Dr. Brandt decided (in 1840..after Ole's death) how/what Ole died from...Malaria and Typhoid.
Interesting that Dr. Brandt was one of the first Norwegian doctors to settle in America.

Re: Hr. Brandt reiste fra Hamburg 18. mai 1840
Kanskje..
Christ Brand in 1880 census Chicago, Cook county..he is a doctor/physician
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MXJM-D89
also..
1870 census there is a C. Brandt, Cook county, Illinois, also with wife Maria
He is a doctor
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=1438024
Perhaps this is the wrong Dr. Brandt...I see that the children are born in Norway...1853 to 1861..
Perhaps Dr. Brandt went home to Norway for a time??..then returned to America??
Here is the oldest son David Brandt, 1900 census b. 1853 in Norway
but immigrated 1868.
So I guess this is the wrong family....since Hans Christian Brandt was in America in 1840s.
