Aberdeen - Memorial services for Ralph O. Haug, 87, Aberdeen, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by Sydney L. Smith Post #24. Ralph died Monday, Aug. 11, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements. Ralph Oliver Haug was born Jan. 4, 1921, at Frederick, S.D., to Krist and Amy (Johnson) Haug. He graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1939. Ralph became a cadet in the Army Air Force and was sent to the University of Missouri. This is where he met his wife, Lois Funk. In 1945, they moved back to Aberdeen, where Ralph worked for Consolidated Propane from 1952 to 1968. He then started working for a contractor doing carpenter work from 1968 to 1975 and then worked as a counselor for NADRIC until retiring in 1992. During retirement, Ralph and Lois enjoyed traveling and visiting their grandchildren. He loved woodworking in his garage, building furniture, hunting and gardening. Ralph was a member of the Elks, AA, Sons of Norway and American Legion. Grateful for having shared Ralph's life are: his wife, Lois Haug, Aberdeen; children, James (Lyn) Haug, Rapid City, S.D.; Jerry Haug, Vernon, N.J.; Jeffrey Haug (Rick Fahel), St. Paul, Minn.; Karen (Scott) Smith, Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Alexander, Jonathan and Samuel Haug; Jeremy Haug; Erik, Jacob (Shanell) and Gabriel Smith. Aberdeen: Services for Ruth Smith, 88, of Aberdeen will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Inurnment will be at Wayside Cemetery in Frederick at a later date. Ruth died Sunday at Avera Mother Joseph Manor. Visitation: 1-7 p.m., Wednesday, prayer service at 7 p.m., Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home. Ruth Elizabeth Haug was born Jan. 4, 1921, to Krist and Amy (Johnson) Haug in Frederick. Ruth had a twin brother, Ralph Haug. They lived on a farm and attended country grade school. They moved to Frederick and ran Haug's Cafe for a number of years. After graduating from Frederick High School in 1939, she attended Aberdeen Business College. She worked for Anderson Supply and later became a bookkeeper at Paisley Auto Supply. Ruth was secretary for Aberdeen Credit Bureau and a member of Credit Women Breakfast Club. On Jan. 7, 1953, she married Allan Smith in Aberdeen. They moved to Frederick and she adopted Allan's children and had a son, Randy, who was born in 1955. Allan's first wife, Marian, was killed in a car accident. Allan had the Brown County News Paper, and later started the Hecla Independent, so life was very active and busy. After Allan passed away, Ruth had the paper for five years, before selling her home in Frederick and moving to Aberdeen. She began working at Edward Jones on Nov. 8, 1978, retiring on Dec. 15, 1998. She attended the Methodist Church, where they were active in Sunday school. Ruth was involved with Cub Scouts, president of the P.T.A., president of Methodist Ladies, and a member of Alpha Circle, and member of S.D. Press Association. Grateful for having shared Ruth's life are her children: Kathryn (Doug) Nelson, Mankato, Minn., Richard (Pamela) Smith, Cordillera, Colo., Stephanie (Thomas) Zerfas, Aberdeen, Randall (Trudi) Smith, Wahpeton, N.D.; grandchildren: Sara (David) Williams, Matthew Nelson, Brittany Smith, Linsey Smith, Joshua Zerfas; Meghan (Ty) Edwards, Kristi “Kiki” Smith, Allison Smith, Ryan Smith; great-granddaughter, Addyson Edwards. Windsor, Colo.: Audrey Elsie Haug, 86, of Windsor, Colo., passed away June 25, 2011, in Greeley, Colo.

She was born April 17, 1925, to Chester and Blanche (Wilmsen) Engle in Hecla, S.D.

Audrey grew up on a farm outside of Frederick, S.D. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1943, and went on to obtain her teaching certificate. During World War II, she worked in a tool and die factory.

In 1947, Audrey married James “Swede” Haug. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1951, where she continued working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and later retired from the Sioux Falls School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Churches of Frederick and Sioux Falls, S.D.

Audrey enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends. She thought of others first and everything she did was with love. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake.

She was a 50-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Minerva Chapter No. 98, Telephone Pioneers of America Associate Member, Shriner's Auxiliary and attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greeley.

Audrey is survived by her son, Rodney, (Sarah Moening); daughter, Becky Foster; grandchildren, Autumn Rasmussen (Jeff Rasmussen), Ryan and Matt Haug, Philip Foster, Ben and Isaac Moening-Swanson; great-grandchildren, Rylie and Sophie Rasmussen; brother, Davey Engle; and sisters, Elaine Greenwood and Gladys Brannon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents; two sisters; and one brother.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Ave., Greeley, Colo.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Pickerel Lake Lodge, 2356 Miotke Road, Grenville, SD 57239.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Adamson Funeral and Cremation Services, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Online condolences may be sent to the family and a delayed webcast can be viewed of the service at adamsonchapels.com.
