Hun hadde da bodd i Canada i 39 år.

Hi Sissel,

I have looked into this family and I do not think that Edmund and Ethel had children. This is what I can tell you about them:

- Ethel's parents were William (b. 1956) and Jane Shaw (b. 1867). They were both born in Canada, in the Province of Prince Edward Island. At some point, the family had travelled (for some unknown reason) to the State of Maine, United States, where Ethel May was born (as you already know). Ethel had two sisters (both born on Prince Edward Island). Gertrude (b. 1888) and Pearl (b. 1894). In 1911, the family was living in Strathcona, the Province of Alberta, and they were there still living there in 1916. However, by 1921 the family, including Ethel, were living in Vancouver, Province of British Columbia. In 1921, Ethel was still single, working as dressmaker, and 33 years of age; and because she was born in the United States, she was in 1919 naturalised a British Subject.
- In 1921, Edmund was single and living in a remote part of British Columbia.
- In 1933, Edmund travels to visit a friend in the United States, and when he crosses the border in to the United States, he is still single, but when the Americans ask him for a contact person back in Canada (Vancouver) he lists someone with the surname Shaw. He is 49 years old at the time.

I cannot find a marriage record for Edmund and Ethel and the reason for this is not that such a record does not exist, but that the records for marriages in Canada after 1932 are 'closed'. They are not usually opened till 75 or 80 years pass by. Even if they did marry in 1933, she would have been about 46 years old so children don't look likely.

I found Edmund's obituary in the Vancouver Sun Newspaper, but it lists only that he has brothers and sisters back in Norway, and it lists his wife, Ethel. I have attached a copy of it.

Now, perhaps not is all lost in terms of the grand-niece who's travelling to Vancouver, as I think that Edmund might have had a brother named 'John' who must have immigrated to Canada, as I have seen a record for a 'John Boysen' (b. 14.2.1886) living in Vancouver who states his brother is brother is Edmund Boysen. I think that John married and had children.

All for now.

Erik

Okay, I think that John Boysen is actually Sverre Hakon Boesen, Edmund's brother. John dies in Vancouver on June 2, 1955. The person who informs the heath authorities in British Columbia of his death is Ethel May Boysen, John's sister-in-law.

I have attached the registration of John's death.

Sverre's baptism record. The date is off by a few days, but this date is likely correct, rather than the one that Ethel Boysen provides on John Boysen's registration of death.

Hei Erik!
