Olsen family

Legg inn av gj05515 » 08 mai 2013 10:58:57

Hi,

I am trying to find an immigration/emigration for this family:

William Olsen (date of birth unknown), born in Norway
his wife, Mary C. (Petersen), born in Norway March 1852

Children:

Oscar, born in Norway Jan 1876
Phillip, born in Norway Sep 1877
John, born in Norway Sep 1879

The family arrived in America 1881 - 1884.

They lived in Rye, Westchester county, New York. William died before the 1900 census.
Two more children were born in Westchester county; Mary, in Sep 1884; Frank Adolph on 5 Jan 1887.

Phillip is listed as Phillip in the 1900 and 1905 census. He then changed his name to "Carl F. Olson". That is the name listed on his grave stone.

Phillip Olsen was born 10 Sep 1878 in Norway and died 7 Apr 1908 in Rye, NY.

I have the information from the US census records - I am only trying to find when the family arrived in NY and where they lived in Norway.

Many Thanks!

Brian

Hi Brian

Here is a possible married couple in the 1875 census in Bergen. (Caroline Mariane might become Mary C.)

Thank you Knut and Vivi!

Vivi, the Family you found did look good..... until the 1900 census.

Phillip is not a common Norwegian Name, I wonder if it was something else?

Hi

Philip is not a common Norwegian name, but it is used. In the 1865 census there were about 80 Philip/Fillip.
His name might have been Carl Fillip?
Was he born 1877 or 1878?

I have also thought about his Name being "Carl Fillip". It is possible.....

The 1900 census says he was Born September 1877, but his grave says he was born
10 Sep 1878. I think 1878 is correct.

The 1900 census says Oscar was Born January 1876, but his grave says he was born 1877.

Oscar and Carl are buried next to each other in Rye, Westchester County, New York.

I have tried to find an "Oscar Olsen" or "Oscar Villemsen/Wilhelmsen" Born 1877 and arriving in America 1881-1884 - but no luck.

Hi

Do you know what occupation William Olsen had?
Could he have been a master carpenter?

Hi Brian

This might be the Family you are looking for, but there are somethings that doesn't fit.

I'm not sure, but here is what I have found:
June 23, 1873 in Vang, Hamar, Hedmark Wilhelm Olson married Mari Pedersdatter. (No C in her name, but her father was Peder Kristofersen so she might have used Mari Kristofersen Pedersdatter = Mary C Petersen) But she is born around 1848 and not 1852.

August 18, 1873 they have a son August Wilhelm, no 53:

I found no John born 1879, but there is a Håkon Hjalmar born 1882. Hjalmar might become John, but the rest does not fit.

Håkon Hjalmar was born Oct 22, 1882.
