Mvh

He was also named the Outstanding Senior Citizen at the Lake of the Woods County Fair.
Over a career of 50 years, Mr. Christiansen and his crew built many homes and outbuildings in Baudette, Warroad, Williams, Roosevelt and outlying areas, and he did volunteer construction work at the museum, the county fair grounds, as well as at the Congregational Church in Williams. Mildred Christiansen
(Died August 12, 2008)
Mildred Christiansen
Mildred R. Christiansen, 90, entered Eternal Life on August 12, at Lake Wood Care Center in Baudette, Minnesota. Millie was born on May 11, 1918 in Williams, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph L and Eva (Bonney) Gillie. She attended grade school in Williams prior to her parents moving to Flint, Michigan when she was a child. During the Great Depression her father returned to Minnesota with Millie and her brother J.L. (Larry) and they resided on the grandparental Gillie Homestead farm in Hallock, in Kittson County where they were surrounded by family and relatives in the area. Millie was a 1936 graduate of Hallock High School. Her father took out a loan so that she might obtain an education, rare for women at that time, and she earned a 2-year teaching certificate from Moorhead State Teachers’ College. Mildred moved to the Williams area where her father had a sawmill business, and she began her teaching career in the elementary grades in the Williams District. As a young single teacher on staff Millie was expected to invite a guest to the Jr-Sr. Prom held at the Nite Hawk in Roosevelt. Her brother suggested she ask Arvid Christiansen, but Millie was too shy, but he accepted the invitation offered on her behalf by her younger brother, Larry. On June 12, 1941, Millie and Arvid were married by, Rev. Bert Richardson, with the ceremony taking place at the Pilgrim Congregational Church where she was a member. Over the years Millie was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, active in the Ladies’ Aid Society, and Vacation Bible School, as well as entertaining church youth from the Twin Cities in her home. She was a member of the Williams Commercial Club, Homemakers’ Extension, and 4-H Leader for Wide Awake and Lucky Clovers 4-H Clubs, helped out with Potato Day, and was a 56-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In addition she was active as a fundraiser for the MacDougal and Potoma areas of the Sister Elizabeth Kenny as well as for Easter Seals, Tuberculosis, the American Cancer Society, and others. Millie was also a Spotter for the Government, and watched the skies identified aircraft with binoculars, and if warranted made a long distance call to report aircraft presence to headquarters in the Twin Cities, a duty of which she was relieved with the arrival of the 692nd Squadron in Baudette. Millie was an avid gardener, having both a north and south plot, canning and freezing produce, every year she picked many gallons of blueberries and wild cranberries and chokecherries for home use and to make jelly for the Ladies’ Aid Jelly Project.. She was perhaps the most enthusiastic and vocal hockey fan when her sons played defense for the William Wolves and we didn’t miss a game, home nor away! During the same time-period she commuted to attend night classes at Bemidji State College, and she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, graduating summa cum laude, frequently commuting 120 miles each way, every day. Within several years she had completed coursework and was awarded her Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Bemidji State University. She first taught Head Start in space allocated in the Williams Elementary Grade School Building when it was a new educational program, then later on taught sixth grade for many years in the Williams plant, before moving to the Baudette facility. Before retiring she was selected Lake of the Woods County Teacher of the Year, and represented the area at the Minnesota State Fair. Following her retirement, Millie and Arvid enjoyed traveling the United States and the world, as well as visiting with their children and grandchildren. Following marriage, Millie took a hiatus from her teaching duties and became a civilian wife, then a mother, before becoming a Navy spouse with the advent of World War II. She remained in Williams while Arvid was in training and stationed in the South Pacific, but she and Kenneth lived in Munford, Tennessee and Pensacola, Florida, after he returned stateside. Upon the couples return to the area, she helped on the Christiansen farm, was noted for her riding the potato planter and serving delicious lunches to work crews. Millie was mother to Kenneth A. (Julia) Christiansen, Fargo, North Dakota, the late Lt. Joseph C. (Denise) Christiansen, Baltimore, Maryland, Steven J. (Charlotte) Christiansen, Roosevelt, and Susan C. (Steven R.) Feldhake, from Effingham, Illinois. . Millie is survived by sons Kenneth and Steve, and daughter Susan, as well as nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Mrs.. Christiansen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arvid, stepfather Loyal J. Bickford, brother Larry Gillie, and son, Joe.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18th at 2 PM at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Williams. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette. Interment will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams. Memorials are preferred to the Senior Center or the Pilgrim Congregational Church.

In the start of this tread I asked about when did they arrive Canada and how did they go from Canada to USA, and when. that was what we were not able to find. But you have found much more than we had collected earlier, and we thank you so much for that. No we can compare for a control. But because of what we asked about we did not fill in the parents name in the beginning. I am sorry if we have had a misunderstading. I understand that I maybee should given you the whole family in the beginning. I appresiate what you have given us, and there was very much new information.
Thank you so much.

One more question, please?
Can you, please, find the Passenger List and Boarder Crossing for the parents, Andreas (Andrew?) Christiansen in 1908 and Lise (Evensdatter) and the rest of the children in 1910?
Andreas (Andrew?) Christiansen, born 27 April 1863 baptized 10 May 1863.
He married Lise (Lisa) Christiansen, maiden name Evensdtr, from Glestad in Ringsaker 3 Febr 1885 in Ringsaker Church. Lise was born 16 Febr 1862, ch. 30 March 1862.
They had 9 children together, all born in Norway: Ingeborg, Christen (Kristen), Emma, Jenny, Agnes, Adolf, Tolvine (Evelyn?) and Karla (Carla).
Andreas emigrated 3 Oct 1908 from Christiania (Oslo) to Amerika via Canada. First destination was Kenora, Ontario. A year earlier, Christen and Emma had left Oslo for Canada as well.

Lise emigrated 7 May 1910 destination Hull and finally Minnesota, with Jenny, Agnes, Laura. Adolf, Tolvine and Karla to join her husband. They may have taken a boat from Liverpool to Quebec, Montreal or St. Johns and then by Canadian Pacific Railroad to the final destination.
