Hello,

Einar Jensen arrived in Ville de Québec, Province of Québec, Dominion of Canada on or about May 10, 1923, having left Southampton, England on May 2, 1923. He arrived on the Canadian Pacific Steamship "Empress of Scotland". After arriving in Ville de Québec he would have travelled by Canadian Pacific Railway to Camrose (rather to the closest station servicing Camrose and its evirons).

As you'll see from his Canadian customs arrival form, his destination, Camrose (and to his friend Hans Gullson), is in the Province of Alberta. He also intends to farm, therefore it is possible that he sought and proved a homestead, be it in the Province of Alberta, or one of the other Canadian Prairie Provinces (i.e., Saskatchewan or Manitoba).

The last Canadian census of Alberta was taken in 1916 (a special census of the Canadian Prairie Provinces taken between taking of the national censuses). The national 1921 Census of Canada won't help you, but the 1931 Census of Canada, assuming that Einar Jensen remained in Canada, might be of help to you. Canadian censuses are released to the public 92.5 years after their taking; hence, the 1931 census is expected to be released sometime this year.

I'll look look to see if he sought from the Canadian government a homestead which were available to immigrants settling on the Canadian Prairie Provinces. I'll also check to see if he was naturalised a British Subject (all Canadians prior to 1951 were British Subjects), which was a requirement of obtaining patent to any homestead that he might have proved. If I find something, I'll post it.

Here are some possibilites as to where Einar ended up:

1. You can search this Western Canada Land Grants database (https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/ ... .aspx#toc2). There is an explanation and a series of maps on the land-grant programme used in Canada. There are a few men with the name Einar Jensen.

2. There is an Einar Jensen who was naturalised British Subject in 1935 in Bonanza, Alberta. This could be him (see the attached document). You can order the document from Library and Archives Canada. It will provide a record of his life from his arrival in Canada in 1923 and when he became a British Subject (Canadian) in 1935, including any information on a wife or children (https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/ ... aspx#toc05).

3. Birth records are closed for 120 years, marriage 75 years, and death records 50 years. In the case of Alberta, they are held by the ministry of Vital Statistics for the province of Alberta and should you desire to order one, you can contact the ministry here (https://www.alberta.ca/ordering-certifi ... ments.aspx).

4. The 1931 census is explained in greater detail here (https://publications.gc.ca/site/fra/9.8 ... ation.html). Release shall likely occur on June 1, 2023. It shall be transferred from the Dominion Bureau of Statistics (the holder of the census) to the national library and archives (Library and Archives Canada) for digitisation and indexing. You can check Libary and Archives Canada's website for updates on its release (https://library-archives.canada.ca/?req ... /home.aspx).

I'll check to see if a local history book (bydgebok) was written on Bonaza and its families. If so, he should be listed in it.
