Norma P. Ofstehage Klanderud 95, of Vermillion, SD, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center.

Norma Staum was born October 21, 1916, on the family farm north of Elk Point to Casper and Anna (Ulvog) Staum. She attended Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Elk Point High School.

On February 19, 1941, she married Robert Ofstehage at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point. They farmed in Union County for over 50 years and were Vermillion residents since 1973. Robert passed away on August 21, 1995. Norma married Delmer Klanderud of Mesa, AZ on July 8, 2000. Delmer passed away on June 24, 2010.

Norma was a career homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing and caring for family members. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in most church organizations. Norma especially loved participating in the church choir. While she was a resident at Sanford Care Center, she created numerous beautiful quilt tops that St. Paul WELCA members made for various missions. While spending winters in Arizona, she was an associate member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mesa. Norma was a former volunteer at the Vermillion Nursing Home, a former member of the Dakota Hospital Auxiliary and Vermillion Civic Council. She was a member of the Clay County Farm Bureau, Senior Citizens and Elephant Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Ronald) Minske of Mesa, AZ; twin granddaughters, Carrie (Sean) Crowley of Sonora, CA, and Angela Sabbe; and great-granddaughters Hannah and Kelsie Sabbe of Santa Monica, CA; a brother, LTC (Ret) Vernon E. Staum of Marietta, GA; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert Ofstehage and Delmer Klanderud; her brothers Arthur and Clarence Staum; and sister, Gladys Eggan.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, 1988 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, for Mrs. Kenneth (Iva) Tordoff, 82, of Nora Springs. The Rev. Joel Kreiger officiated and graveside services were held at the Osae Cemetery where she was buried.

She was born October 19, 1905 in Mitchell County southwest of Osage to Oliver and Alma (Teslow) Haugen. She attended schools in Osage.

On July 14, 1937 she married Kenneth Tordoff. The couple lived in the Mason City and Nora Springs areas. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nora Springs.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Nora Springs; a sister, Mildred Hummel of Osage; a brother, Gordon Haugen of Osage; and nieces and nephews.

OSAGE, IOWA - Mildred O. Hummel, 92, died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott and the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Interment will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, (515) 732-3706.

Mildred was born August 8, 1907, in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver and Alma (Teslow) Haugen. She attended Osage schools.

Mildred was united in marriage to Dan Hummel on November 18, 1937, in Osage. They lived their entire married life in Osage. Dan died in March 1962.

Mildred was employed at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital for 22 years as a dietary aide.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Mildred is survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Haugen, Osage; three nieces, Meri Jo Lonergan and her husband, Bill Jr., Austin, Minnesota, Coralie Normann and her husband, Arnold, Veroqua, Wisconsin, and Ann Nelson and her husband, Alan, Veroqua, Wisconsin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan; two infant sons; a brother, Gordon Haugen; a sister, Iva Tordoff; and a special friend, Leonard Baldwin.
