Nils and Halvor Nilsen and Gunnild Halvorsdatter Ulsager

Nils Nilsen Ulsager born Jan. 27, 1836, brother Halvor Nilsen Ulsager born May 29, 1839 and mother widow Gunnild Halvorsdatter Ulsager born Feb. 24, 1811 left Hemsedal, Norway April 8, 1861 to America. This information is from the Parish Register in Norway.

This is the information I got from the U.S.A.: Nels Nelson Ulsager (Nils Nelson) was born on January 26, 1836 in Norway and died in Branden Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, on December 3, 1913. He came to the U.S.A. about 1862 and briefly settled in Wisconsin and later moved to Goodhue County, Minnesota where he met and married Jorun [Gerimard] [Gerka] "Julia" Knutson. They moved to Chippewa County. Chippewa County was later changed to Douglas County in 1867 and they took up a homestead on section 31 of Branden Township where he farmed for the rest of his life. You can see the homested when you drive by on Interstate 92. Nels and Julia Nelson Ulsager had nineteen children but only ten of which survived to adulthood. Nels, Julia, Knute, Anna, Molly, Helen, Halvor, Mary, Anna, Birget, Jonnetta, Henry, Martin. The Ulsager cemetery is located in Aurland, Norway, and is on an island close to Bergen. Now that island has a road connection.

Is it possible to find if this is the same Nils Nilsen Ulsager? I cannot find anything about this family in Aurland, Norway. Where and when did Gunnild (also written Gunhild, Gunnhild or Gunild) die? Where did Halvor Nilsen Ulsager settle in the U.S.?

Halvor Nelson born in Minesota in 1876 and froze to death south of Rugby,
N.D. in 1955.
Halvor N. Nelson was born 18 March 1876, and died 13 December 1955. He is
buried in Bethel Cemetery near his brother Knute Nelson and his
sister-in-law Margit Nelson. Halvor farmed the SW quarter of Section
4, Township 155 North, Range 73 West of Tuscarora Township, Pierce
County, North Dakota. He came to Pierce County in 1899. In 1920 he
lived between Aldrich Anseth and Bernhard Bishof.

I just recieved certified copies of Halvor Nelson and Betsey Nelson death certificate. Halvor Nelson died Dec 13, 1955, date of birth March 18, 1876 in Brandon, Minnesota, never married, Fathers Name: Nels Nelson, Mothers maiden name Jouren Giksta, never in armed forces, informant for death informaiton Ann Anderson of Rugby, States cause of death: "Freezing due to exposure because lost in snowstorm near farm" Tuscarora, Pierce, ND> Burial 12-21-55 Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Rugby. date the coroner signed it was 12-19-55. No autopsy performed. he was 79 years old when he died.

Ernie recalls that he was out to get coal in the winter and had heart attack, which could also be true as we have lot of heart disease in family history and at 79 he could have had a heart attack in the snow... but my dad grew up in that parts of ND and said they had terrible blizzards and people could get disoriented and lost in their own barnyard.

Betsey's death certif also lists mother as Giksta, Jouren Do you have a copy of that? if not I will make a copy for myself and mail this certified copy to you.
