Ingolf Eriksen

Hei.

Jeg trenger hjelp til en Ingolf Nikolai Eriksen, han er født 1894 i Kragerø.
Han ankom Newport news,virginia 8 oktober 1925 med skipet Sangstad.
16 Mars 1927 ser jeg han igjen er ute på sjøen med et skip med navn Steinstad. Da reiser han fra Guantanamo,Cuba og skal iland i New York.

Han sendte mye brev og bilder hjem når han var ute. Og på baksida av ett av bildene jeg har, har han skrivd D/S Steinstad, Montreal Kanada.

Det jeg lurer på er om det er noen som har noen opplysninger hvor han ble av?
For etter 1927 er det ingen som hørte noe mer av han.
De prøvde å lete han opp, men uten hell. De trudde han forsvant i New York.

His father was Ole Eriksen Sollie and mothers name was Maria Johannesdotter.

Hi.

I found out that he got married in 1919 in Kragerø, Norway with Marry Knudsen. That was before he went out on the sea. Problem is that I can't find him after 1927. He was then on a ship named Sangstad from Cuba. I think the ship stopped in New Yourk before it went to Montreal, Canada. But he never camed to Canada. And all the tracks stops in New York.

Have you asked questions of the family? Have you checked all the Church books for his death in Norway?
I checked the 1930 census and I do not find him. He was on a list of workers on the ship, so it does not mean he lived in New York, only that he visited while and alien worker on a ship.

Yes, i've asked the family.
And they all says that he never camed home. They tried to find him in the states, but all they found out was that he maby died in a fire in New York. But i can't find out if he died there or not. The last letter he sent home to his son is a picture of the ship Sangstad with the spelling that he was on his way to Montreal,Canada. The family never heard of him since.

I haven't find the death of Ingolf in any norwegian church book. Is it possible that he is in a usa church book? I dont know how tho find or surch in the usa church book.

America is centuries behind Norway! The only place I know they have the Church books on microfilm is at ELCA Church headquarters and at Madison, Wisconsin at the Norwegian-American Genealogical Center and Naeseth Library. Just like in Norway, there are thousands of Church books, they are not located all at the same place and would be difficult to find and go through unless you know what Church they attended and where.
