Burial of Peter Olsen 1895 Sagene

Legg inn av gj16333 » 11 okt 2012 02:18:39

My GGGrandfather Peter Olsen died 27 Nov 1895 and was buried 3 Dec 1895 in Sagene. The reference is here:

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 060108.jpg

His entry is number 118.

Would anybody be able to translate the cause of death and the words before and after his name for me please?

Takk for hjelpen

The words before and after his name are :

Forhenv. papirarb. ( fattiglem ) Peter Olsen , enkemand

Forhenv. = short for forhenværende
papirarb. = short for papirarbeider - paper mill worker

Former paperworker ( poor ) Peter Olsen , widower

I can not read cause of death .... sorry...

Hi Darryl

Are you familiar with the deathprotocols? They might give you additional information: Here is Peter Olsen (no. 2932):

Kildeinformasjon: Oslo fylke, Oslo skifterett, Dødsfallsprotokoll A 17 , 1895-1897, oppb: Statsarkivet i Oslo.
Permanent sidelenke: http://arkivverket.no/URN:sk_read/27264/100/
Permanent bildelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 380442.jpg

Fhv Fabrikkarbeider = X-factory worker
Peter Olsen, 65 years old
dead yesterday (i gaar) i Thorshaugsgaten 7.

Afd. (deceased) der var Enkem. (that was a widower), eiede intet (owned nothing), og ... Begraves af hans 4 Börn (his four children paid for the funeral). Anmeldt af Svigersönnen (the son-in-law reported the death) Mekaniker Erik M. Eriksen. - Död ?? hos hvem Afd. har haat Ophold. It seems that the deceased had been staying with his son-in-law.

Hello again Kjersti

Yes, I have seen the death protocols before, earlier this year. I found them just by lots of searching through the arkkivert site and putting all the links and headings through the google translator to see what they meant. Sometimes very funny english came out, but mostly I could work out the meaning.

In my GGGrandfather Peter's case, another Norwegian contact who I was then helping to try to find some possible 19th century Australian relatives translated it for me.

I do thank you though, for putting up the links. Its help like that from you and other participants here on DISNorge that has made my research into my Norwegian ancestors so much fun and interesting.

Using familysearch and the old IGI and the digitised parish registers I was able to create my Norwegian family tree without 'too' much difficulty. But finding out a little bit about them and how they lead their lives would have been impossible for me without the help I found here with translations and hints on where to look.

To use an old Australian expression 'you are a bonzer group of people'.

Takk skal du ha :D

Darryl
