Same life and records

Legg inn av gj12591 » 02 feb 2011 15:12:12

I am very pleased to find out that I have ancestors that were “flyttesamer”.
Can anyone please recommend a book that tells of the same’s life before they settled in one country and where to get it?
Beside the Norsk and Swedish church records – did the same keep any record of their own?

Hello :)

There is a lot of information in this blog about saami people and their history (lot of links too here when scrolling down): http://saamiblog.blogspot.com/

There is an author;Odd Mathis Hætta, who has written several books about Saami. They are available in bookstores (also online). One of the books is called " Samene - Nordkalottens urfolk " and contains old and new and about saami history, culture, language, etc. But: it is in Norwegian!

Regards
Linda

Hei Leif
Thank you for the wonderful web pages – have already been lost in them for hours  The “Ice News” has some interesting bits in it and some wonderful photos.
Heidi
