Rossing (ødegården) i Lund

The person whom I am looking for (Andreas Olsen) is said to have been born 1805 Mar 17 at
Rossingødegården Lund, Akershus.

But I can't find either the farm, nor the parish.

Can someone direct me to the proper parish name?

Yes, he did emigrate to the US, and, at the time, he lived in Søndre Land in Oppland fylke. One of his sons served in the Civil War in the Scandinavian (or Norwegian) Regiment of Wisconsin.

But, he was said to be born in Akerhus.

I have been searching more since I posted my first note, and it seems that the Rossing name is a "fixed" name coming from the ancestor Lieutenant Haakon Rossing, birth Abt. 1700 in Schleswig-Holstein, Rossing, Germany, death in Romsdale Kirk, Norway.

The more records I see, the more confusing the story becomes, and perhaps Lund is misspelled and should be Land.

I will switch my focus and search more in Søndre Land, Oppland.

Jeg klarer ikke tyde hele farens navn, Ole ??ichmann Rossing? Hvis det er Heichmann, tyder det på at det kan være et tysk navn.

Yes, these are exactly on the right trail !

The first letter of that hard to read record is an H. It is a fixed family name (Heichmann, and various forms of it).

Thank you every so much -- I was also able to find some information in the series Boka om Land, and the puzzle is starting to clear up.

The family came to America in 1857, and Bind IV of Boka om Land has a nice description of this family on pages 184-186. The father, Andreas Olsen Rossing came with his 2nd wife and 7 children. They had additional children where they settled in Argyle, Wisconsin. On page 186, it reads

" Den kanskje mest navngetne av Rossings-barna var Torkel, som da borgerkrigen brøt ut lot seg verve in det berømte norske 15. Wis. Reg der han steg raskt i gradene....."

It is this son Torkild who is in our database of soldiers of the Wisconsin 15th at http://www.nagcnl.org/civilwar/profiles ... rofile=155
