Hello All,

The inheritance of Holme upon Spaldingmore, co. Yorks. by the
Constable family (of Flamborough) and of Rennington and Broxfield,
Northumberland by the Hiltons of Hilton, co. Durham were known to have
been the result of their descent from the Tison or Tyson families
previously holding those manors. Thanks to the details provided by
Bateson in A History of Northumberland, it is now clear that both Tison
families descend from the Domesday tenant Gilbert Tison, of Swinton in
Wath, co. Yorks. and Averham, co. Notts. Gilbert Tison was also a tenant
in the East and West Ridings, Yorkshire and in Lincolnshire at Domesday
Book 1086 [1]. Gilbert Tison also held Rennington and Broxfield in
Northumberland, either by direct grant or de jure uxoris, which lands he
gave to his younger son Richard, the ancestor of the families of Hilton
of Hilton, and Hilton of Swine and Winestead [2].

The extensive lines of descent from the Constable and Hilton families
provide a vast number of identifiable descendants of Gilbert Tison. These
include the late Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth II and her immediate
family, Camilla Parker-Bowles and many more (incl. several SGM list
members) besides.

I hope the following is helpful.

Cheers,

John *

John,

I offer a small addition to your Tison lineage. If you will consult DD
pages 1006, 1125, and 1126, you will find that Avice (#1.1.2 on your list),
daughter of Adam, is shown to be the wife of Henry II Hosatus. I've
interpreted that to be Henry II Hussey; if I am wrong regarding that
interpretation, please advise.

I hope this is helpful.

Gordon
