Loyalists to Canada, List of Noble and Royal Lines?

Legg inn av M.Delano Warner » 19 okt 2004 19:28:17

In my research I have found that my mother is a 2nd generation
American, as her
father was from Canada, and that they were loyalists to the British
crown at the end of the Rev. War.

My question is this:

"Has any researcher done a survey as the the noble and royal lines of
the loyalists that fled to Canada?"

My Loyalist family surnames and country of orig. and known spellings
are:

McAlpine [Scotland]
Van Wart [Dutch]
Belmain / Balmain / Belmaine / Balmaine [Scotland]
Nevin [Scotland]
Watters / Waters [Scotland]
Acker / Ecker [ ? ]
Fowler [England]
Heustis Huested Hewstis Hussted Hustis Hustead [?]
Merritt [England]
Robinson [Ireland]
Jenkins [ ? ]

I look forward to any reply's.

Cheers,

Michael

Loyalists were living in USA before they went north. So,
if you can do the line back to the USA, and develop them,
then you should be able to continue with the RD600.

I noticed 2 books that may help. One is Loyalist Lineages
which I presume may help for some lines. The other one is
the Dictionary of American Biographies that I used to add some
data to a few lines of known people (like state officers and m.p.)
that were in Quebec, but thus far, I found no royal connection.

Hello,

I can't speak for Loyalist emigres as a whole but I do know that
numerous Scottish-descent Loyalists who settled in Canada have
traceable royal descents. For example:

Macdonell, Alexander (d. 1787), NY > Quebec, descended from Robert II
Macdonell, Allan (d. 1792), NY > Quebec, descended from Robert II
MacDonald, Isabella (d. 1794), NY > Ontario, descended from James IV
MacGregor alias Drummond, Donald (b. 1713), NY > N.B., descended from
James IV

I suspect that there are probably numerous others with similar
descents.

Sincerely,
Kelsey J. Williams
