Linz von Dorndorf, von Neuhof gennant Ley, Jung, Schelling,

There is an old family of German/Austrian origin which
settled in Brazil in 1580. It's the Linz von Dorndorf
family. It seems that they came to this country as
agents of the Fugger. (They are known as Lins here.)

Their pedigree is remarkable because of their many
intellectual connections - they married into the old
Jung family (the one from which C. G. Jung was
descended) and a female branch goes down to
philosopher Schelling. Recently someone told me that
Anton Bruckner, the great composer, was also related
to them - I'm not sure of it however.

They are all of mixed stock here in this country, that
is, they have African and Amerindian ancestors besides
their German Linz lines. Very much like another great
family of German stock with whom they intermarried,
the Wanderley family - von Neuhof gennant Ley. A well
known descendant of this latter lineage, João Maurício
Wanderley, Baron of Cotegipe and Conservative
Prime-Minister under the Bragança monarchy, was
notoriously dark-skinned (very much like one of his
fellow cabinet members, my relative Franklin Américo
de Meneses Doria, Baron of Loreto, who was besides his
political activity an interesting poet).

(Just for the record.)
